Kambole leads Chiyangi’s 20 member COSAFA squad
Chipolopolo caretaker coach Aggrey Chiyangi has named his final 20-member squad for the 2019 Cosafa championships which kicks off this weekend in Durban, South Africa.
According to the list availed by Team Manager Desmond M’ngawa and made available to ZamFoot, the technical bench has named Zesco United striker Lazarus Kambole to lead the attack alongside Zanaco’s Chitiya Mususu, Emmanuel Chabula of Nkwazi who has found the back of the net seven times this season and Green Eagles’ talisman Tapson Kaseba who has found his scoring boot to help the Kawale Boys win Stream B and qualify for the CAF Champions League.
The technical bench has entrusted Green Eagles goalkeeper Sebastian Mwange and Power Dynamos’ Lawrence Mulenga to be between the sticks as the search for a long term replacement for 2012 AFCON winning goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene continues.
Chiyangi has opted to go with five defenders which is likely to be anchored around Buildcon’s Isaac Shamujompa with a possible partnership with Zesco’s United Clement Mwape who has played in almost all of United’s matches in the Transitional League with Kabwe Warriors’ defender Tandi Mwape also offering a different option to the technical bench. Former Forest Rangers Defender Gift Zulu now on the books of Nkana, Zanaco’s Lawrence Chungu and Mwila Phiri of Zesco United will fight for the wingbacks position.
In midfield, Zanaco winger Ernest Mbewe, sensational Nkana midfielder Kelvin Kampamba, the ever-impressive Red Arrows captain Bruce Musakanya and in-form Forest Rangers midfielder Austin Muwowo with 10 goals to his credit this season and has been heavily linked with a move to Orlando Pirates will be making his debut at the regional showpiece.
Others are Green Buffaloes midfielder Jack Chirwa who makes a return to the national team set up, Power Dynamos’ defensive midfielder Benson Sakala as well as Forest Rangers midfield general Webster Muzaza who has had a good season for the Ndola based outfit.
Zambia will join the tournament at the quarterfinal stage with a clash against Group B winners which has Namibia, Mozambique, Seychelles and Malawi on June 2.
The team is set to leave for South Africa on Tuesday and are expected to touchdown at King Shaka International Airport at 18:00 hours same day.The 2019 Cosafa Cup will be held in Durban from May 25 to June 8.
