It’s impossible not to love Patson Daka- Rodrick Kabwe

Since the days of Kalusha Bwalya at PSV Eindhoven and Charles Musonda at Club Brugge kv, Zambia has failed to produce players that would go on and shine in the European leagues despite having immense talent from the likes of Collins Mbesuma, Christopher Katongo, Rainford Kalaba, EmmanuelMayuka to name but a few.

Recently we have players like Stophilla Sunzu and Jacob Mulenga who have accounted for themselves well in Europe at Metz in France and Fc Utrecht in the Netherlands respectively.

But now things look to be heading well for some of the country’s recent exports to Europe who most are now dependable players at their clubs, the likes of Evans Kangwa at Arsenal Tula, Fashion Sakala at Kv Oostende, Edward Chilufya at Djurgarden IF, Enock Mwepu and Patson Daka at RB Salzburg. Emmanuel Banda at Djurgarden IF and young talents of Klings Kangwa and Lameck Banda are also looking great and it’s just a matter of time before we get to see them cement those starting places.

The ZamFoot Crew caught up with Ajax Cape town midfield sensation Rodrick Kabwe to discuss the recent form of one of those exports, Patson Daka who has been scoring non-stop in the Austrian Bundesliga.

The free-kick specialist had a lot to say about the 21-year-old forward from his humble nature to his likable personality and immense talent that make him a mixed breed of African greats like Samuel Eto’o, Christopher Katongo, and Emmanuel Mayuka.

Z C: How well do you know Patson Daka?

RK: Not really on a personal level but what I have to notice is that he is a humble and respectable young man, in the few times we have spent time together playing as opponents in the ZPL and our relationship has been really good for the past 5yrs now.

ZC: Is he someone you can easily get to love?

RK: 100% yes, the boy has got good relationship qualities in him, the first time I meet him it took a few seconds to click with him, his personality is just amazing away from football.

ZC: What is your say on his current performance for Austrian RB Salzburg this season?

RK: His performance this season has been wonderfully marvelous to watch, I have watched a few games where he is involved together with mwepu. PD20 has been in form since the start of the 2019/2020 season that not even the coronavirus pandemic could affect his performance and his scoring of goals. Again it tells you the type of mindset the boy has in him.

ZC: Who’s the player you watch on TV and say, “He’s something like Patson Daka”?

RK: Tough to compare him with strikers we see on TV. But if I was to say something, it will be that PD20 is just PD20 of his own. He has the finishing touch of the likes of Drogba, the never give up character and attitude of Afcon winning captain Christopher Katongo and the power, strength, and speed of Emmanuel Mayuka during his days. PD20 is just PD20

ZC: What would be your advice to Patson Daka?

RK: My advice to him will be that he should continue to do what he is doing currently. It’s clear to all of us that the boy is hard working but something stands out for him and that is, he does his hard work smart and that makes a very huge difference in his current form. He should keep that smart hard work wherever he will go from Salzburg.

ZC: Which big European club would you love to see him play for?

RK: I would like to see PD20 play for my Chelsea team (laughs) being a Chelsea fan of course. But he can suit other teams like Liverpool and also Arsenal because of their style of play and PD20 being a very good runner off the ball it’s just amazing.

The Zambian talisman has managed 26 strikes and contributed 8 assists in 39 matches in all competitions. In the league, he has managed 23 goals and 4 assists in just 25 games.

When he scored his second goal against TSV Hartberg, Daka became the first Zambian to score 20 league goals or more for a European club surpassing Mwape Miti’s 19 goals scored in the 2003/04 season for Danish side Odense Boldklub.
