All hail King Kuba the ‘magician’ and his green Army

At the start of the season if a person said Green Buffaloes was going to have a fantastic 2017 season not many people would have believed such a declaration. And who could have blamed them with Lusaka Dynamos and Buildcon FC taking over as big monies were being splashed on players and coaching staff.

Fast forward to November, with only one fixture left for the Zambia Army sponsored out-fit they sit third on the log with only a point separating them and log leaders Zesco United and with a huge chance of winning their first league title since 1981.

Coach Bilton ‘Kuba’ Musonda has build a strong squad with only local assembled talent that has been a thorn in the flesh of many of the so called big guns.

Musonda has made his team a force to reckon with but he has done that without spending huge sums of money, Magic? Football brains is more like it. He has managed to work with the available material to get the best out of them, Something only a very good coach can manage.

Twelve time super league champions Nkana have nothing on Coach Kuba and his boys as they have beaten them home and away convincingly. First a three two win at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Then a three goals to one victory at the own backyard in Wusakile.

Midway through the season they lost their target man in National team striker Brian Mwila but Friday Samu has stepped in and made it look so easy as if Mwila never even existed.

At the start of the season it was a Brian Mwila show. The now Platinum Stars player scored six crucial goals for Buffaloes and led the attack with purpose but once he left Friday Samu took the mantle and made it look easy.

Samu is arguably Zambia’s best locally based striker if his numbers are anything to go by. He has found the back of the net on thirteen occasions which is the highest by any Zambian Striker in the league and only Jesse Jackson Were (14) and Chris Mugalu (19) have managed to score more goals.

He has been consistent and he at some point on a five game scoring spree. It will be a big surprise if he doesn’t make coach Wedson Nyirenda’s CHAN squad.

Diamond Chikwekwe’s flare, Swiftness and speed has been a big weapon in Buffaloes arsenal. Katiba and Chikwekwe have been linking up well yo provide Samu chances to burry with easy.

Coach Bilton Musonda has managed to plot his opponents downfall smartly. Buffaloes don’t play to the gallery or yo impress anyone but they use their strength which is speed and a target man to get goals and create chances.

Musonda has managed to work with a group of players that are not necessary the best in the country but they have worked wonders for him. He has managed to control the dressing room and managed to tame his players.

Green Buffaloes have conceeded the least number goals (25) together with Zesco United making their defences the meanest in the league. Goalkeeper Fred Joe Silwamba has been a great revelation . Forget his weight, The man has been a beast in his own right.

Adrian Chama, Malani Gondwe, Buchizya Mfune and Co have been doing their job right. They have been composed and compact at the back which has seen Adrian Chama earn himself a few national team call ups and some action time out on the pitch.

With all this put together we all must congratulate Green Buffaloes and coach Bilton Musonda for a job well done. They might miss out on the league but they have already qualified for continental football which many felt was out of their reach.

  1. Nice one. Buffalo’s are fit for continental. But honestly speaking am worried with the football being displayed by Zesco. May they improve for continental sake
