Green Eagles beat Zesco to fly continental

Choma based Green Eagles made history when they when they beat Zesco United 1 – 0 to confirm their spot in the CAF Confederations Cup and become the first side from Southern Province to represent Zambia in the continental games.

Eagles went in the game knowing that their position was under threat from 5th placed Zanaco who were just a point behind. The odds seemed stuck against Eagles who were taking on Champions Zesco United while Zanaco were taking on Nkwazi who were in the bottom half of the table.

The Aggrey Chiyangi coached side rose to the occasion on what was their final game of the season and did not need any favors from Nkwazi as they scored a late winner through Tapson Kaseba who converted from the spot to secure maximum points in the 80th minute.

Zanaco on the other hand were beaten 1 – 0 thanks to a loan goal by Davy Kalndanya scored in the third minute.

Runners-up Nkana also ended the league on a high when they beat Lusaka Dynamos 4 – 0 to end the Airmen’s 12 game unbeaten run since stand-in coach Chisi Mbewe took over from Honor Janza. Nkana end the league as the highest scoring team with 66 goals scored.

Green Buffaloes also sealed a 3 – 0 victory over relegated Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy thanks to a brace from Friday Samu and another goal from E Sinyangwe.

With the deadline of submitting representatives in the CAF competitions set for 15th October, 2018, the Football Association of Zambia FAZ brought forward the four final league games for the teams that had a chance of making it into the top four.

  3. STUMPY says:

they wont offer much. I feel we dont deserve 4 slots in continental

  4. Laka says:

    Congratulations Zanase

is Tapson Kaseba Zambian? How can you leave the Zambian league top scorer out of the National Team, for example I watched DRC against Zimbabwe game in which DRC exhibited poor finishing qualities and none of their top strikers could match the quality of Mbombo, Mugalu or Bwalya. Mbombo is on 20, Kaseba on 19 and all these strikers were not called to represent their Countries! What is the problem, are we Euro-phobia?

  6. Pundit says:

I don’t believe scoring goals is enough to play for the national team.. Kaseba has to prove himself now that continental football is in Choma!i also agree we don’t deserve four teams on the continent

That is your belief and I have been watching Zambian soccer for a long time and played soccer at Junior level all I know is it takes an excellent and composed player to score goals and end up being a top scorer. This nonsense of a player proving Himself when you have seen the statistics is baseless. If I can remember well almost all the Zambian top scorers from the time Zambia became active onto the international scene have had a place in the National Team. Is it because Kaseba is playing for a small team?
Further, this blog is quiet now with constructive criticism because it is a White person Coaching Chipolopolo, is it Euro-phobia? I remember the blog club of pre-2012 they used to criticize Harve Renard so hard that sometimes I felt sorry for the Coach but this Coach is having it easy! To be honest the finishing on Wednesday was very poor even Wada knew how to pair Strikers.
