BUSA return to winning ways aided by a Maweta brace
Green Buffaloes thrash Elite Ladies in their first match of the Barbra Banda and BUSA Women’s Annual Challenge Cup
Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club has sent warning shots to the teams competing in the 2021 Barbara Banda Foundation and BUSA Women’s Challenge Cup Tournament, this was after they defeated one of the tournament’s favorite teams, Lusaka Dynamos Ladies FC with a resounding 4-1 victory this morning in their first Group B match.
The Zambia Army-sponsored side were a house on fire scoring two goals in each half as they found the back of the net through Clara Bwalya, Lucy Kajiya, Jackelinee Masenke, and Ethel Chama who also provided twice in the same game that was really a mouthwatering encounter played at New Bauleni Community Stadium whereas Eunice Namfukwe grabbed the consolation goal for the Elite Ladies who succumbed to their first loss in as many games as they have played since the club was formed last year.
The Army-sponsored outfit opened the scores through Ethel Chama who struck from close range with a rebound from a free-kick taken by Ireen Lungu which Zambia U-17 Women’s national team goalkeeper Chitete Munsaka failed to deal with.
The second goal came courtesy of Clara Bwalya’s clearance after Jackline Masenke distracted, Chitete. Ethel Chama turned provider for the third goal setting up Lucy Kajiya. Jackline Masenke sealed the result with a fourth goal benefiting from a Joana Benaya assist.
Eunice Namfukwe scored a consolation goal with only five minutes left on the clock.
The win has boosted Buffaloes who will be going into tomorrow’s games with heads high knowing very well that a victory will send them through to the Semi-finals but they will have to overcome YASA Queens who will have all to play for and BUSA Queens who are also in need of maximum points in their last game against the Soldiers to stand a chance of next round passage.
In an earlier Kick-Off game at Crested Cranes Academy Grounds, BUSA Queens revived their chances of making it to the Semi-finals with a comfortable 2-nil win over sluggish YASA Queens who have minimal chance of proceeding to the next round depending on results in the other games.
The Coach Kaluba Kangwa drilled lasses were a better side in this match and missed several chances, but all thanks and credit should go to Zambia Women’s Under-17 skillful Midfielder Maweta Chilenga who scored a brace to join the top goal scorers chart.
Maweta first struck a beautiful free-kick leaving Edith Nawakwi Zimba with no chance and the. went on to finish off a rebound from a Cindy Banda strike.
Lusaka Dynamos Ladies FC is leading Group B on 4 points, followed by Green Buffaloes Women Football Club on 3 points same with BUSA but only separated on goal difference while YASA is locked bottom with a single point.
