Green Buffaloes – From fighting relegation to just four points outside the top four
Green Buffaloes have spent one-third of the 2020/2021 MTN/FAZ super league season fighting relegation. It seems they can now breathe a sigh of relief as it’s becoming mostly likely they’ll remain in the top flight of the Zambian football league and have a chance to qualify for Continental football with three games to play.
Buffaloes have been regular campaigners in the league with six(6) league titles to their name.
Things don’t always go your way in football as they are good and bad times but what is important is at the end of the day to have a positive attitude and a strong mentality and not to let any setbacks destruct you.
Green Buffaloe’s good performance in the second half of the season can be attributed to several factors including hard work, motivation, and self-belief which saw the team go on a six games
The ZamFoot Crew caught up with Buffaloes goalkeeper Fred Joe Silwamba, who gave insight regarding what is happening at the army-sponsored football club after the one-all draw against Lusaka Dynamos at MTN stadium of woodlands on Wednesday.
“You know football goes hand in hand with motivation which plays a role especially when the team is low, yes we have not been at our best this season but we have tried to change the scope of our results in the second half of the season,” he said.
“The good performance is in line with what the management promised us, they showed that they care for the team by making some promises after seeing that we were facing the threat of relegation and as a team we thought it was wise to work extra hard to repay the management with good results for their dedication, continued support and promises they have made and shown to the team in this difficult time,” Silwamba added.
Silwamba believes teamwork is playing a big role in the way the team is managing to get results these days.
“The way we are doing things now as a team, there’s unity in the team like never before as we have changed the mindset and our attitudes because everyone is pushing hard in fear of being relegated,” he said.
“And now as a team, we are beginning to realize the dream of finishing in the top 4 and we have even shifted the focus to finishing in the top four, yes by the grace of God I would say we have survived relegation and from the remaining games I feel we can do better and find ourselves in the top four so long we keep pushing,” he added.
Green Buffaloes football club is four points adrift of the second CAF Confederation Cup slot which is currently occupied by magnificent people’s team Kabwe Warriors.
Buffaloes are remaining with two games to put to an end to their 2020-2021 season. Their next two games are against kitwe united and Prison Leopards. They will be back in action on the 19th of June against Chingalika, Kitwe United.
