Grant: We deserved to win

Zambia coach Avram Grant has applauded his players for the impressive performance against Congo.

Speaking in a post match interview, the 68 year old also said that Zambia deserved to win.

The Copper Bullets beat Congo in a six goal thriller in a Group E FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier match day 1 on Friday in Ndola.

“We needed to show a lot of good football and mentality especially in the second half. We started the game well and we were leading 1-0,” Grant said

“But we slept a little bit and they scored two fantastic goals to be honest,” he added

“Congo is a good team and know how to play good football

“Second half we dominated the game completely and this is game which could have ended even more. We missed good chances and they also missed two good chances but we deserved to win.

Lameck scored a vital goal. This was his third goal in 9 appearances for Zambia

Zambia emerged 4-2 victorious over the Red Devils thanks to a Patson Daka brace and a goal each from Lameck Banda and Fashion Sakala.

The 2012 African Champions will face Niger in Morocco on Match Day 2 on Tuesday.
