Fred Silwamba confident Green Buffaloes can turn things around
The path doesn’t look good for the team from Arakan barracks, Zambia Army-sponsored side Green Buffaloes who now occupy 15th position following 2 wins,7 draws, and 5 losses from 14 games they have played so far in the Zambian super league.
They are level on points with Napsa stars and Young green Eagles who occupy 16th and 17th position respectively with better goal difference ranking them above the two. But not all hope is lost as the league is still young with 20 games remaining to play.
Before the start of the league the team had set targets of being in the top 6 for the first half of the season vying for the ABSA cup slot, it also had a target of playing continental football by being in the top 4 by the end of the season with winning the league as the main target.
These targets seem to be fading bit by bit but not all hope is lost yet as they can make it to the top 4 by the end of the season as they are 9 points behind 4th placed Buildcon with still some slight chances of winning the league.
The Zamfoot Crew caught up with Green Buffaloes first choice goal-minder Fred Joe Silwamba in Ndola on their way to kitwe the host city for their game against Power Dynamos this afternoon at Arthur Davies stadium.
In a walking interview with The ZamFoot Crew, The Green Buffaloes first-choice shot-stopper, Silwamba expressed confidence and hope that the team will recover in time to meet the target it has set for this season.
“Tomorrow’s (today) game is an obvious thing we will pick up maximum points because we don’t have the option but to win the match if we are to get back on track, I have faith that we will win the game tomorrow because the guys are very ready for the game,” he said.
“About targets, we had set for the season, I don’t think we will make it top 6 in the first half of the season and qualify for ABSA cup but for top 4 finish at the end of the season am very sure we shall achieve that, we will recover and be back on the path, I can promise you that will do it,” he added.
Green Buffaloes will be looking for a third win of the season when they visit Power Dynamos. Green Buffaloes who have a winning ratio of 27% from the last 5 games they have played as they have only managed to pick up 4 points from the possible 15 points, they will face a team whom in the last five meetings between them they have managed to record two wins and losses with the last meeting ending in a barren draw on 20th January 2020 at MTN Woodlands Stadium.
Both teams have shown that they can grind results away from home as Green Buffaloes managed to pick up a 3 nil win at Arthur Davies Stadium on 4th November 2017 while Power Dynamos did win in Lusaka at MTN stadium courtesy of a first-half lameck Kafwaya lone goal. Both have kept clean sheets once apiece with Green Buffaloes scoring four past Power Dynamos whilst conceding three times.
“We are also missing the services of our captain Jackson Chirwa and Friday Samu, maybe yes or no that our poor form in the league can be attributed to their absence but it’s possible to point to that as you know we are a team,” Silwamba told the ZamFoot Crew.
Fred Silwamba is expected to start between the sticks and will have to make sure his team keeps power Dynamos at bay and not concede as his team is chasing maximum points.
