Forest Rangers duo named ZamFoot player and coach of the week

The MTN/FAZ Super League is now back in full swing with two rounds of matches already played so far and the third round less than 5 hours away, the ZamFoot Crew is back with the team of the week.

For the first team of the week of the 2020/2021 season, the top performers for the two weeks played so far will be combined.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Goalkeeper – Mathias Kigonya – Forest Rangers, With two wins against top teams in Nkana and Zesco United and two clean sheets kept, it’s not a surprise that Mathias Kigonya makes the team.

The Fole Malembe shot-stopper made some brilliant saves in both matches.

LCB- Prosper Chiluya – Red Arrows, The 2017 U-20 AFCON winner seems to have settled quickly at Nkoloma Stadium and is looking promising with the usual quality that he is known for.

CB- Isaac Shamujompa – Buildcon, Buildcon may have drawn both their opening two matches but Isaac Shamujompa continues to show his class in the heart of the defense. In the first game at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium against Lusaka Dynamos, he was extra exceptional to make sure the team managed to get a point in the money derby.

RCB- Dominic Chanda – Kabwe Warriors, The Chipolopolo defender, has continued where he left off last season and is putting in brilliant shifts. In the game against Nkwazi, he also managed to get a goal that sealed three points for his team.

DMF- Sydney Kalume – Lusaka Dynamos, The former captain is like wine, he gets better with age. He seems to never be slowing down and has shown that consistency is not dead in football. He commands the midfield and does a lot of donkey work.

CM- Laurent Muma – Forest Rangers, The Fole Malembe skipper is a cog in Forest’s midfield and has started the season beautifully with his short passes and good combination with Mpho and Webster Muzaza paying off for the Ndola based outfit.

CM- Stephen Mutama- Nkwazi, He may not be one of the most praised players in the league but Mutama is a brilliant player no doubt, and in the two games Nkwazi has played ‘Pato’ has shown his brilliance. Despite the Zambia Police sponsored side losing to Kabwe Warriors in midweek, he put up a great performance and scored an even better free-kick.

LMF- Mpho Michael Mathekgane- Forest Rangers, The South African midfielder has been key in Forest Rangers two wins so far assisting two goals and dismantling, Zesco United and Nkana midfield. In the game against Nkana, he was the official man of the match.

RMF- Ali Sadiki – Kabwe Warriors, The Zimbabwean midfielder is known for his prowess with freekicks but in the first two rounds of matches it’s his midfield controlling ability that has dominated, In the game against Nkwazi had the striking force been a little sharper he would have had at least three assists.

CF- Zikiru Adams – Forest Rangers, The Ghanaian forward is a proven goal scorer and he has already notched up two goals so far this season. A contender for the golden boot? it may be too early but surely he among those who will finish in the top five of the top scorers’ chart.

CF- Anos Tembo – Green Eagles, The former Red Arrows striker is back to being Green Eagles’ main center forward and he is taking the role seriously scoring the two goals that have given the Kawale Boys six points so far.

Player of the Week(s) Mpho, The South African has surely taken the Zambia Super League by storm and is deservedly been named the ZamFoot Crew player of the week (s).

Coach of the week (s) Tenant Chilumba, Careless Millionaire was his nickname during his playing days but there has been nothing careless about his tactics this far as he has guided Fole Malembe to two big wins convincingly.
