FAZ Provincial Cup final brings Eastern Province to a standstill

The FAZ Eastern Province cup tournament final took center stage on Sunday, 29th November with a fierce contest involving two former FAZ Division One South now FAZ/EDEN national league outfits in the name of Petauke United Fc and Panza FC.

The game was played at a mild tempo, the first half ended nil-all with Panza squandering some good scoring opportunities which they later lived to regret.

In the Second half, Petauke United took the game to the opposition from the start of the second half whistle and it didn’t take long, they found the back of the net in the 56th minutes through their center forward Patrick Masiye after timing his run well from the left wing to curl in a shot in the right bottom corner.

With the hope of equalizing, Panza FC made a series of changes in the 60th minute but to no avail, as Petauke sat back and defended the goal plunging their opponents to defeat in a game where they didn’t dominate the proceedings.

The one hundred thousand kwacha rich tournament saw the top eight teams each walking away with cash prizes including the coach of the tournament and man of the match.

Team of the tournament was Malambo united who was the only provincial division two team to reach the semi-finals only to be eliminated by Panza FC on post-match penalties, a stage which was dominated by three provincial division one team who is Panza FC, Katete United, and Petauke United.

The coach of the tournament was Joseph whose team Imena golden stars ply its trade in the provincial division two as they were the only team apart from Malambo stars from division two to reach the quarter-finals which were composed of six provincial division one sides.

The Player of the match in the final was Abraham Masiye from Petauke united the goal scorer of the lone goal in the final.

    From the copperbelt the feeling is that it’s the way to go with identification of young promising players! These should be filters to super league teams without any hindrance. This happens in European leagues; talented players are not left to languish for long in lower leagues by selfish club bosses. In fact super league officials should be encouraged to be present at such the finals. We could unearth talented players at at early age.
