Euro Wrap: Sunzu v Chisamba….Russian Gunners host Ural on Friday

The spotlight temporally shifts to Eastern Europe on Friday night as two Chipolopolo players come head to head.

On loan defender Stopilla Sunzu from French Ligue 1 will welcome Chisamba Lungu in his city.

Arsenal Tula host Ural in a Russian Premier League match with kick off at 17h00 Zambian time.

Both players featured for their respective clubs over the weekends and they were on the winning side.

Sunzu’s club in relegation zone while Chisamba’s Ural in above the drop zone.

There’s history between the players.

In August 2009, they both had trials at Baia Zudgigi in Georgia. Whilst Chisamba signed, Sunzu was deemed not mobile enough to be a midfielder and when Herve Renard got the scouting report from Europe, the towering Sunzu was converted to central defence in Janaury 2010. The rest is history.

While Chisamba moved from the Georgian club to Ural the following year, the journey for Sunzu has seen him play for Tp Mazembe, Sochaux, in China and Lille.

Before thé trials in Georgia, Sunzu also spent a season on loan at French side Châteauroux.

Whilst in China, Sunzu also came to head to head with Jacob Mulenga.

Both Chisamba and  Sunzu are African Cup of Nations winners

  1. Sunzu is a really good center back. …its a shame his career has not been successful as hoped….I see more mediocre defenders from Gabon and Mali playing in Europe’s big leagues….the problem I think is how our players are marketed. …and how they breakthrough to Europe. ….. think its better to chance the Eastern European clubs ….Poland. ….Ukraine. …Austria. …even though they don’t pay well and step up from there. …..Isreal is not too bad….but clubs rarely look to the Isreal league for talent

  2. May da best team win @soccer guru ur right, our zambian players are scouted by wrong scouts n are marketed so poorly, u cud imagine a lot of western africans some wh cnt even match sunzu’s qualities playing in better leagues, eg french league 1, Eredivise, belgiun league, some in seria A n even some in la liga, now if u talk of our players here not even one is in those leagues if not mistaken, even jx a mere scottish league, diz under 20 guys must wait patiently 4 right places not jx take keen interest on offers buh dey shd also consider da kind of leagues dey ar trying 2 step into 4 da sake of succeeding kalusha bwalya as a football icon in zambia

  3. …now, ba Zamfoot – guess you meant to post Chisamba and Nsunzu’s photo and not Chisamba and Jacob Mulenga’s photo te?

  4. FAZ should have a strategy for marketing our players to the right scouts….like for this tournament they should have invited scouts with contacts to the smaller European leagues….pay for their accommodation ….give details of each player …..take the scouts to watch training…..nd games….and give contacts on how the boys can be followed up after the tournament. ….We need scouts who can market our players to the right leagues

  5. ya i agree wth u pipo, our players hv failed in big teams/ big ligues. Jst to mention r few nathan sinkala, kalaba, mayuka, felix, jonas, mbesuma ed sunzu. So someone shud advice these boyz not to go to big team, eastern europe is better.

  6. Final results Fc Arsenal Tula 2-0 Ural. Sunzu’s team has beaten Chisamba Lungu’s Ural. Congrats 2 both players dey played da full 90minutes, dat’s da way 2 go Sunzu!

  7. Soccer Guru……u r spot on! Faz shud b actvely involved in player transfers, guide clubs as well as not allow players join clubs too big for their standards! World class talent yes our boys hv plenty but tecbnically/tactically bankrupt. e.g. Fashion shoots where he is not supposed to and passes wen not needed to.
