The Zambia Women’s National Team will be looking to seal their qualification to the semifinals of the ongoing COSAFA Women’s Championship when they face off with Comoros at noon.
The Copper Queens need to avoid defeat to seal a place in the semifinals to face defending Champions Malawi.
Coach Florence Mwila says her team needs to approach the game with a serious attitude as Comoros are a different side this year from the one they beat last year.
“Comoros is not a pushover, just because we beat them last does not mean we should relax , We have to approach the game with all seriousness,” Mwila told the ZamFoot Crew.
“Changes will be there because we want to identify players for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. If the player is here they have to be ready to account for themselves very well and prove that we picked them on merit.”
“We need to defend as a team, Comoros is a different team this year, they have the desire , and drive so we can’t relax,” she added.
Margaret Belemu is expected to lead the team from right back with Pauline Zulu likely to partner Jackline Chomba at the heart of defence. Tabo Miselo and Esther Muchinga are also available for selection.
Martha Katila Banda and Diana Banda will battle for a chance to rival ZESCO Ndola Girls Melody Kapimpi at the left back position where she accounted well for herself in the opening match.
In midfield, Mwila is spoilt for choice with Evarine Susan Katongo expected to run things in the middle alongside ‘Sergio’, Marjory Mulenga.
In form, Red Arrows youngster Bupe Banda, Ruth Mukusi, Regina Chanda, and Esther Mushota are all available for selection.
In attack, Mwila has options Ochumba Oseke Lubanji, Charity Mubanga, Lungowe Namasiku and Natasha Nanyangwe.
Namasiku and Ochumba are the favourites to start having scored in the opening match. Fridah Mukoma will continue on the wing after her brilliant debut for the Copper Queens against Angola.
Zambia beat Comoros 5-1 last year at the same tournament thanks to a Fridah Kabwe hat-trick.
Kick off at the Madibaz Stadium is set for 12h00 and is live on Supersport and FIFA Plus.
