COSAFA U-20: Zambia’s performance elates Billy Mwanza

COSAFA Under-20 Defending Champions, Zambia are two steps away from defending the Championship they acquired last year, this comes after they beat Malawi 2 nil to top group B with 9 points and progress to the semifinals.

Zambia will now face Mozambique tomorrow, Friday, December 11th at 15:30hrs and the winner between the two sides will automatically qualify to the AFCON under 20 to be staged next year in Mauritania.

The young chipolopolo are yet to concede a goal or lose a game so fat showing how compact or solid their defense has been at the tournament this far together with the goalkeeper who has been instrumental as well, including saving a penalty against Comoros.

Assistant coach Billy Mwanza says he is pleased with the performance portrayed by the boys and he is very much aware that Mozambique is a good side that will give Zambia a good fight hence the boys need to prepare adequately.

“We are very happy because starting from the first game we have not conceded any goal and this is a plus to the team and we have qualified for the semi-finals. We need to appreciate the boys for the work they have done. We just have to continue until the last game,” Mwanza said

“Mozambique is a good side we just need to prepare and we are ready for the challenge.”

The first semi-final of the 2020 COSAFA U-20 Championship will see Namibia face-off with Angola at noon before Zambia can square off with the Young Mambas of Mozambique at 15:30.

Thanx boys u have really removed our shame. As u face Mozambique be more aggressive as they also want to make a record. As usual let’s score them three quick goals. Let evenly opportunity be at goal be executed. Bravo!!!

The u17 and u20 forms the foundation of the Senior team. But when they are graduate to senior team only two or three make to the senior team, while the rest are forgotten. Eg right now all we need is to convene the u20 2017 team as the senior team and zambia will be back on track.

  5. Gideon Mumba says:

I wonder what happens when it comes to the senior teams

  6. Everisto Mwale says:

Because there is no continuity, the most successful team which perished off Gabon, started as under 20 then under 23 and went on to be the National team except for a few changes it was together for along period and understood eachother very well. We had a good team that went to the world cup under 20 recently and performed very well. How many members of the team are in the National team? How many coaches have we changed since 2012? What type of coaches have we had?

  7. Kasama Boy says:

    We needed Jonathan Munalula.
