COSAFA U-20: Zambia’s performance elates Billy Mwanza
COSAFA Under-20 Defending Champions, Zambia are two steps away from defending the Championship they acquired last year, this comes after they beat Malawi 2 nil to top group B with 9 points and progress to the semifinals.
Zambia will now face Mozambique tomorrow, Friday, December 11th at 15:30hrs and the winner between the two sides will automatically qualify to the AFCON under 20 to be staged next year in Mauritania.
The young chipolopolo are yet to concede a goal or lose a game so fat showing how compact or solid their defense has been at the tournament this far together with the goalkeeper who has been instrumental as well, including saving a penalty against Comoros.
Assistant coach Billy Mwanza says he is pleased with the performance portrayed by the boys and he is very much aware that Mozambique is a good side that will give Zambia a good fight hence the boys need to prepare adequately.
“We are very happy because starting from the first game we have not conceded any goal and this is a plus to the team and we have qualified for the semi-finals. We need to appreciate the boys for the work they have done. We just have to continue until the last game,” Mwanza said
“Mozambique is a good side we just need to prepare and we are ready for the challenge.”
The first semi-final of the 2020 COSAFA U-20 Championship will see Namibia face-off with Angola at noon before Zambia can square off with the Young Mambas of Mozambique at 15:30.
