Cosafa tournament good preparation for Olympic Qualifiers – Nali

The Zambia Women National Football Team wrapped up their 2019 COSAFA Women’s Championship campaign with a 1 – 0 loss to South Africa in a tightly contested final played at the Wolfson Stadium in Nelson Mandela Bay on Sunday.

The Copper Queens captain Hazel Nali attributed the loss at the hands of the now three time champions to silly mistakes that cost her team the Gold medals. Nali however praised the team for  the good start despite South Africa spoiling their party at the end.

“The just ended tournament should be taken as preparations for the coming Olympic Games qualifiers. We performed well and this should be a stepping stone despite the undesired final results. As a team we need to keep our heads high, remain focused and put more effort on getting better as a team” she said.

Nali described the tournament as fruitful and beneficial on a personal level as a goalkeeper. She added that the experience gained will be used to make her a better player and thus achieve personal goals as an individual.

The Zambian lasses made history by making their first ever appearance in the COSAFA Women’s Championship finals but to their South African counter parts through a lone goal scored by Martha Makhubela in the 27th Minute of the game.

The Beauty Mwamba coached side will now turn their attention to the 2020 Olympic qualifiers which will see them face Zimbabwe at home on the 26th of August before playing in the return match on the 1st of September.

CAF has one slot at the 2020 Japan Olympics for Women football.

    Hazel Nali is the one that almost single handedly caused the same silly mistake that cost us the goal…lol..she is sure one to talk….anyway let me not hate.

    The coaching left a lot to be desired. The complete lack of the coaches bench to change tactics was amazing. The system generated almost no solid attacking possibilities but the coach did absolutely nothing about the failing tactics. NOTHING!

    Nachula for all her speed and strength needs players around her to shine, she is certainly not a lone striker type of player. She could not bring the long balls into solid control to produce a solid attack on goal. She needs the balls played at her feet for her to make her runs. This was evident already in the Botswana game. When we played a high line in the opening game she got 8 goals, why, she always had three or four players around her and started her runs with the ball played at her feet. The lack of plan B and just sitting there hoping for a miracle made me want to pull my hair out even if I was bold on the day.

    Anyway congrats to the girls for a reaching the final, well done!! Comoros and Mauritius were severely humiliated in this tournament. Let us work on having different approaches should the primary approach fail otherwise we will also suffer the same fate as Comoros and Mauritius come the Olympics.

    CAF only has one slot for Women’s Olympic teams from a continent that has over 55 countries?

  4. Mingalato says:

    But Nali is getting beautiful, two more years she will be ready.
    Zambian girls were the healthiest looking and clean at tournament.

    Finally we have the majority of the team with ladies looking like ladies..and they have some talent

    The # 1, 411 being:

    1. Despite playing and representing the Nation well, this team has had next to zero publicity.

    2. No YouTube or any videos of any kind even on this platform to show their skills;

    3. Poor or no player profiling even after great individual performances by some players

    #2 is the U.20 Girls:

    1. Why is it that they are being kept as a secret?
    2. Considering their exploits, FAZ should have invested in appreciating their efforts & motivate them for future Assignments, but ? judging from the silence;

    3. Maybe there is an issue with Allowances
