COPPER QUEENS PERSONAL TRAINING FACING MONITORING CHALLENGE…AS TECHNICAL BENCH EYE SMALL GROUP GYM SESSIONS

The Worldwide outbreak of the Coronavirus has affected all aspects of life and football has not been spared. In Europe, a number of countries have started make headway on resuming their top leagues with the Bundesliga already back in full swing while a number of Africa countries have like Angola, Kenya and DR Congo have canceled their league seasons.

In Zambia, there is yet to be a clear direction on what path will be taken but despite that the Zambia Women’s national team players are very active, doing individual training to make sure they keep fit and stay in shape for when football finally resumes.

In March, the Bruce Mwape tutored outfit made history as they booked a place at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, a first in Zambia’s history.

To make sure the team is kept active and fit, the technical bench has drawn up a program for the players to follow during this quarantine period, Assistant coach Beauty Mwamba has confirmed to the Bola Crew.

Mwamba has however cited monitoring the progress of the players as a big challenge but she is hoping the opening up of gyms will give them enough Leeway to have small group gym sessions that can be monitored.

“We drew up a program for the players which we sent to everyone which they are following daily and as a way of confirming that they are training and doing the right thing they send videos which we watch to see what they are doing. This is what we can do now because we can’t meet as a team because the situation can’t allow,” Mwamba said.

“It’s a challenge because you can’t go round to check what they are doing. For those who live near my house ( like Mary Mwakapila and Irene Lungu ), I have been able to watch them.”

“We only be able to tell the levels of fitness when we come up with a gym program because the gyms are now open,” she added.

The Copper Queens have a number of engagements ahead including COSAFA Women’s Championship, 2020 AWCON (including qualifiers), and the Olympics which have been moved to 2021 between 23rd July and 8th August.
