Copper Queens Impressive friendly matches lineup ahead of World Cup

The Zambia Women’s National Team will be looking to leave a mark at the World stage when they participate in their maiden FIFA Women’s World Cup later this year. 

The Copper Queens qualified to the global showpiece after beating Senegal on post match penalties to reach the last four of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations

Coach Bruce Mwape’s lasses have already begun preparations for their biggest challenge yet. 

They played Colombia twice last year in November, took part in the Alanya Cup in Turkey, and then faced South Korea twice in the last 10 days. 

The Football Association of Zambia yesterday confirmed that the COSAFA Champions will face Germany in July as part of their intensified preparations. 

The Copper Queens as it stands have three confirmed friendly matches with a fourth still in the works. 

They will face the 22nd highest ranked team in the World,  Ireland on 22nd June before facing Switzerland, ranked 20th in the World eight days later. 

The Copper Queens will then face two time World Champions and eight time European Champions, Germany who are currently ranked 2nd in the World. 

The Football Association of Zambia is still in talks with Australia who are ranked 10th in the World to be the last game for the Copper Queens. 

At the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Zambia will face Spain, Japan, and Costa Rica in Group C. 

Zambia will open its World Cup campaign on July 22 against Japan in Hamilton before facing Spain four days later at Eden Park Auckland. The final Group C match will be against Costa Rica on July 31 at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton.
