Cindy Banda’s availability delights Kaluba Kangwa
Zambia U-17 Women’s national team head coach Kaluba Kangwa has expressed happiness with the availability of enterprising winger Cindy Banda who has returned to the set up after missing out on World Cup qualifiers.
Kaluba who is however concerned with her fitness levels after being inactive for a long but feels it is something he will work on with his technical bench before next month’s the second edition of the COSAFA U-17 Women’s tournament.
The pacey winger was a standout performer at the inaugural 2019 COSAFA Women’s Under-17 Championship in Port Louis, Mauritius scoring four goals and assisting seven on the road to Zambia clinching bronze medals. Banda however suffered a broken arm that ruled her out of the two-legged World Cup qualifier against South Africa.
“For us, this is a plus, especially that she is still very young and whatever age restriction COSAFA gives she will be very much eligible. She is struggling with fitness but it is something we are going to work on with the girls,” Kaluba told the ZamFoot Crew.
Kaluba Kangwa who also doubles up as Bauleni United Sports Academy head coach revealed that the technical bench has introduced mental health education as part of the curriculum for the Copper Princesses.
“We have also introduced mental health education in the curriculum we have with the U-17 to make sure their mindset is strong, prepared, and ready to face any challenge but in terms of coaching aspect we working hard to try to strengthen their conditioning part. They are responding well which is what is important,” he said.
Cosafa has set up a tentative calendar subject to the COVID-19 situation in the region that will see the under-17 women tournament played from October 15-25 while the senior women championship is lined up for October 19-31 in Port Elizabeth.
