The Zambia national team this afternoon take on Congo DR in the first game of the Angola Independence four nation tournament.
There is very little to separate the two teams when it come to their head to head having met 23 times since Zambia came onto the international scene with both teams having won 7 games apiece while nine games ended in draws.
Congo DR (then Zaire) was dominant over Zambia before the 80’s but Zambia turned the tables after that and have not lost a game to their Northern neighbors 13 August 1989 winning three times and drawing four times with the latest draw coming this year during the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
One of Zambia’s worst defeats in history came against this country which saw Zambia suffer a 10 – 1 drubbing in November 1969.
The technical bench will have one eye on the game against Sudan and the Senegal U23 tournament going into this game. But for coach George Lwandamina, he will be looking to better his record of three wins, three draws and two losses.
Congo DR come into the game on the backdrop of two wins against Nigeria and Gabon in October while Zambia played three games in October winning one, drawing one and losing one.
The game kicks off at 16:00hrs Zambian time and will be played at the November Eleven Stadium.
Probable starting XI for Zambia
Jacob Banda – Dauti Musekwa, Boyd Mkandawire, Buchizya Mfune, Christopher Munthali – Paul Katema, Jack Chirwa, Mwape Mwelwa, Charles Zulu – Winstone Kalengo, Moses Phiri
Part of me is hoping we get walloped so that these useless coaches can stop favouring and poor team selection
My suspicion is that the team selectors are trying to sell mkandawire and this chipeshi to PSL clubs. The two lamentably failed against Egypt and we’re exposed against Gabon and Kenya but these punks keep selecting them. One of them even conceded a penalty against Gabon because he failed to cope with pressure we as soccer fans are tired of this crap.
@John, you are not soccer fan, you are coach fun.
Those 2 kids Bennedict and Boyd are great players. But of course they can’t match Dauti & Donashano.
Good about Donashano Malama is that he can play more than 4 positions, is the only player with Chisamba whom we can say are tactical players.
Sometimes ba john u talk too much. This is de best locally based players dat we have. Dont just be critising anything dat comes in yo way.Go zambia Go.Am seeing zambia winning dis game 2 nill. On foreign based players being called, only one noteball have been leftout Jacob mulenga thoug de guy nomary fails to tick wen playing 4 de national team. Fwayo lucks game time an fittines as well as Mayuka, mbola not de same player of 2010 he misses traping de ball so offen whenever he plays for zambia, kola roja cant just fit well in de zambian way of playing football. De team looks okey.
John may talk too much buh hz got a point. Wen ar players like kabumbu n lawrence chungu going to b given a chance?? Favoritism is wat is killing our football.
Meant Kapumbu*
WE WIL BE BEATEN
Of course Zambia is losing, we can support them but we cant expect too much from our crap squad to beat a good side like Congo dr. Again we will be clobberd in sudan as we have no defenders. If sudan fail to thrash Zambia a weak team, then they have become useless too.
Is the result of this game an obvious thing?
Chipolopolo are not pushovers. Wait and see. Those who will have an opportunity to watch this game will bear witness of it. Makasais can have it easy in the Arab nations but with Zambia it is a different story.
