Chipolopolo Queens in limbo over payment of allowances

Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili has distanced himself from the plight of the Zambia National Women’s team stating that his ministry is not responsible for paying the Chipolopolo Queens and is only responsible for the Senior Men’s Team.

Kambwili stated that his Ministry is only responsible for paying the Senior Men’s Team while the Junior Teams and the Women’s Team are FAZ’s responsibility.

Kambwili has further advised the ladies who have refused to leave the FAZ Technical centre until they are paid to be patriotic.

“The first thing that should be at heart is Zambia before other interests like money comes in. They must be patriotic enough to sacrifice for Mother Zambia. I advise the girls to put the interest of the country first and money last,” he said.

However, the POST has reported that the players have said the chef who was supposed to cook for them had vanished.

They also say power to their rooms was also disconnected in FAZ’s bid to disperse them without reasonable pay.

The players wondered why FAZ was suddenly treating them like outcasts.

But ZamFoot understands that Football House is broke.

A FAZ employee who spoke to ZamFoot on conditions of anonymity said FAZ is broke.

“We don’t have money at the moment. I can’t explain why we are so broke. Even our salaries have been so delayed that many staff are also demoralised. We have played two international games at home recently home but it doesn’t seem to appear there is any proper financial accountability to alleviate the situation,”

“We were hoping that the bonuses of about US$1million which FIFA announced in June in Brazil and has since given all national associations would help us as employees and even the women team but there is nothing,” said the source.

The players were promised US$80 per day for the period they were in Windhoek.

  1. Government and FAZ please address the girls plight.Dont you think they were patriotic enough by leaving their families, jobs ,schools etc to represent the nation in the tournament???
I suggest a 10% wage cut for all those responsible with Kambwili and Kalusha contributing 20% .

  2. But ba fat albert sure I the girl played for mother Zambia stopped sku for football some even injured and now he says they have to be patriotic when he has money in his pockets can he attend meetings without allowances they were patriotic enough for them to do Zambia proud as they qualified and played. Mind yo language honourable Cimbwili please.

  3. This is a clear example of Kalusha’s management skills…we need a change of leadership in FAZ, see how our football has suffered…the level of performance on the field has matched that of running Football House-below average! It would be interesting to find out how much their budget is, in 2012 africa cup 2million, international matches Japan and Brazil another 2 million, Mandela Cup and FIFA 1 million…these guys have received serious money these last two years…plus Kalu’s ngogole, a financial audit is needed to investigate FAZ…ba Minister probably has his hands dirty as well…

  4. Let’s be sober baneni in as much as we against this crap but sober is needed as soccer fans ! Mr kalukasu will u please advise Kalu to do something ! It’s a shame that we can be in this situation . Ati bakolwe basekana ifipato ! We mocked Ghana , and Cameroon , we are now in the same situation ! I pit FAZ for putting Zambia in shame

  5. Fellow fans, please remember that FIFA says government should not meddle in football affairs. This is a double edged sword. If the censure whoever is responsible at FAZ we get banned, that’s meddling. If they pay, thay is not meddling. Ba FIFA are also corrupt and whatever…..

  6. I agree with @Don and all the guys saying these girls should be paid. Please give them what is due to them. They can’t eat patriotism!!
I suggest the Minister should not be paid for the next 3 months and the money given to the girls. I’m sure he won’t mind because he is a patriotic man.

  7. Funny how politicians always ask for patriotism. When was the last time they gave up a paycheck in the name of patriotism. Shame on these guys.
