Chipolopolo coach summons youthful 24 man squad
Zambia national team, Chipolopolo coach Sven Vandenbroeck has summoned a youthful 24 man squad comprising of only local players for camp.
The Belgian has roped in a the Zambia U17 national team skipper Alex Mwiinga and three from the U20 squad comprising of Kafue Celtic striker Francisco Mwepu, Nchanga Rangers defender Benson Kolala and Zesco United tricky winger Lameck Banda.
In an interview with FAZfootball.com, Sven said that he had drafted the youngsters from junior national teams as part of a long term developmental plan for the copper bullets.
“I have included players from the U17 and U20 as part of a long term development plan. Some of the players we wanted for this camp are engaged with the Barclays Cup so we have given their slots to the deserving young players,” he said.
Eight clubs are in action this weekend in the Barclays Cup quarterfinals in Kitwe where top guns Zesco, Zanaco, Power Dynamos, Nkana, Green Buffaloes, Green Eagles, Mufulira Wanderers and Young Buffaloes square off.
To these effect Sven has left out a number of regulars from the local scene including Zesco United star striker Lazarus Kambole.
Sven has given call ups to a number of top performers in the league at the moment. From Red Arrows who currently undefeated in ten games he has called midfield workhorse George Simbayambaya and young striker Joseph Phiri.
Danny Silanvwe who has been a new player since his loan move to Napsa Stars has also been called together with Nkwazi midfielder Jeff Banda.
The coach is expected to name his squad for the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations fixtures against Guinea Bissau in the next few days.
Zambia will host Bissau at Lusaka’s National Heroes Stadium on the 10th of October before travelling to face the same team three days later.
