Chinese clubs show interest in Hichani after Sundowns order defender to train alone

South African ABSA Premiership Mamelodi Sundowns have informed out of favour defender Hichani Himoonde to train away from their training ground Chloorkop.

The Pretoria based side have reached a deadwood with the 27 year old defender.

Sundowns have told Hichani that he is surplus to requirement at the club and want to terminate his contract but they have to buy out the remaining two years of his contract since they have failed to reach agreement.

The burly defender is now back at his boyhood club Lusaka Dynamos where he rose to stardom in the 2008.

Hichani captained ‘The Elite’ to the Bp top 8 glory alongside the likes of William Njobvu, Sidney Kalume and Chabusha Malumani.

Now with defender back in Zambia, his agent is trying to secure him a deal abroad with the Chinese League being of the option as his dstination.

The Lusaka born formed one of the best central defence partnerships with Stoppila Sunzu at the 2012 African Cup of Nations on the international stage for Zambia.

He has also featured for Zesco United and TP Mazembe but yet to kick a ball for Sundowns despite joining them early last year.

Hichani has played for Zambia at all levels and has been to four African Cup of Nations (2008, 2010, 2012 and 2013).

    • Mediocrity at its best. All our players are in China or Indonesia .how can we do well in AFCON & World Cup qualification ? It baffles me that u suggest chansah should go there. This is nonsense. Has China ever been at the World Cup even with their 2 billion people? That is not a football nation. The west Africans hardly go there. There is no ghana, Nigeria or Ivory coast player on China. Why are all our players heading there? South Africa is far better for our players.

  1. Mamelodi Sundowns are experts in finishing players’ careers. Hichani is not the only player to have been treated like this. Even that defender from Ghana, Sumaila, also found himself in the same predicament. I just don’t know why Sundowns signs players when they can’t even be in their squads. Just look at Mukuka, they signed him and then loaned him to Celtics. Its not even clear they will keep him if his loan spell at Celtics comes to an end. Zambian players should think twice before they sign for Downs.

    • Billy, you are so right. This club has habit of signing in bulk and then discarding the players they don’t want. They are like fisher men who just drag the net across the river then throw out the small fish. Something is fundamentally wrong with this clubs transfer policy. I would advise any Zambian against signing with Sundowns unless you have made a name for yourself in SA already and have that work permit thing they offer foreigners who’ve been in SA a while.

  2. Sundowns’ scouts are incompetent; they recruit players they dont know what to do with. It seems to me that too much easy money is their undoing. They were supposed to up there with TP Mazembe, Esperance, ES Setif…

    • Kampinda, you are so right on that one. Sundowns has a lot of money and should be competing with clubs like TP Mazembe, but they clearly have no recruitment strategy or unable to simply nurture talent at that club.

  3. after we won the africa cup i expected the bulk of that team to end up in europe. china is becoming our mainstay, anyway like john said better than the useless psl
