Chilombo cries for Arrows U20 players

UNDER-20 national team coach Hector Chilombo has urged Red Arrows to release striker Patrick Ngoma and three others to enable them undergo medicals ahead of the 2015 Senegal Africa Youth Championship.

Ngoma, midfielder George Mandu and defenders Peter Mulenga and Bernard Chepeshi are with Arrows in Tanzania for a 10-day pre-season training camp.

“We are negotiating with Arrows for the release of the four players so that they can undergo medicals with their colleagues. So far so good. It looks positive,” said Chilombo in Lusaka yesterday.

The two-week tournament kicks off on March 8.

Skipper Lubambo Musonda of Armenian side Ulisses is expected to join camp this weekend alongside Israel-based midfielder Saith Sakala.

And Chilombo praised his players’ impressive performance in yesterday’s 3-1 win over Super Division Napsa Stars.

The junior Chipolopolo were on target through Dave Daka, Larry Bwalya and Spencer Sautu while Elson Mkandawire netted for Napsa.

“I am very impressed with the response from the players. They have shown their character and our hope is that they continue with the same spirit.

This was a training game but they have performed to expectation,” Chilombo said.

Zambia are in Group B with Ghana, Mali and South Africa. Group A has Congo Brazzaville, Ivory Coast, Nigeria and hosts Senegal.

The semi-finalists will represent the continent at the World Youth Championship in New Zealand in May this year.

  1. Its weird to see Zambia and South africa both qualifying for u17 and u20 youth tornaments, perhaps/Maybe Southern africa in future may challenge west africa.

    • Not really mate, Zambia is constant at senior level despite a lack of ‘proper’ perfessionals-this means that the talent levels in our junior teams is role and present…what we really lack therefore is the organisation structure of the game in the land; faz! We sort out that and we shall be always attending these junior outtings…

    • for him to make a step up to a much bigger league he must add goals to his game due to the fact that he is playing in a not so popular league, but he will definetly develop.

  2. @ Alex zz in our group I’m very worried about Mali and your team Ghana. These two pose a serious threat to zambia. Ghana rarely goes out in the group stage of any tournament. In fact they don’t go out at senior world cup level either. Mali is now known all over africa for producing strong youth teams and with their height and power Mali is very dangerous. This is a very tough group to get out of. Anyhow , the fact that zambia is qualifying for all these tournaments is proof that our 2012 afcon title is no fluke zambia is a soccer nation.

  3. guys I can tell you this team is leathal. this is like the class of 1999. I watch these boys in the local league. beating NAPSA 3-1 is not a mean achievement.

  4. Our boys need to get in camp and get that needed chemistry going, the other teams in our group have shifted into top gears in prep for this tournament.
