CHAN: Chipolopolo back home ahead of Saturday’s return leg

The Zambia national team has arrived home after their goalless draw with Mozambique on Sunday.

The Copper Bullets had double duty first claiming the 2022 COSAFA Cup before moving on to CHAN qualification assignment away in Maputo.

The team arrived at the Kenneth Kaunda international Airport at 12:25 hours aboard South African Airways.

The team went straight into camp ahead of Saturday’s second leg Algeria 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier at National Heroes Stadium against Mozambique.

The two teams settled for a barren draw in the first leg.

The winner over the two legs will meet Malawi to decide who qualifies to Algeria.

The Flames walked through to the final round after Zimbabwe could not play their game owing to a FIFA ban.

CHAN is a competition exclusive to players plying their trade in the domestic league.

Zambia’s best outing at the CHAN tournament came in 2009, the inaugural showpiece in Ivory Coast when the team came out third with Given Singuluma winning the golden boot.

The 7the edition of the African Nations Championship will be held in Algeria between 8th and 31st January 2023.
