CHAMANGA: IT’S NOT RIGHT FOR ME TO RETURN TO CHIPOLOPOLO SET UP

Zambian legend James Chamanga has ruled out any possible return to the national team.

Following his 8 league goals for Red Arrows this season, there have been whispers among the Chipolopolo faithful for possible inclusion in the CHAN or COSAFA squads but the 39-year-old has ruled it out.

“It is like me (Chamanga) playing for the COSAFA, I think it is not right,” the former China-based striker has been quoted today’s Zambia Daily Mail.

Chamanga is the highest scoring Zambian in the league and is 2 goals behind Kenyan and Zesco United striker Jesse Were.

“I want to give a chance to upcoming players to showcase their skills. Just like what I have said in the past, I am done with the national team.

The former Kabulonga Boys pupil started his career at Simataa Simataa’s Amakumbi stars before he joined National Assembly as an attacking midfielder.

He then had a brief loan spell at Zanaco.

Chamanga trekked to South Africa where he featured for Bush Bucks, Supersport United and Moroka Swallows.

He also won the PSL top scorer award despite not featuring in the second half of the season.

Thereafter he went on to have a successful spell in China.

On the international scene, Chamanga scored at four consecutive African Cup of Nations (2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012).

He went on to feature at five African Cup of Nations and was part of the 2012 winning squad.

2 Comments to CHAMANGA: IT’S NOT RIGHT FOR ME TO RETURN TO CHIPOLOPOLO SET UP

  1. Pyokera Kawonga says:

James, your refusal to join the National Team on the premise of giving chance to young talent is not on.
We all all want young talent to develop but if they are not delivering meals to the table then we should go for the old guards that have delivered in the past and are still delivering at club level.
Age is just a number and all that matters is your physique and performance ‐ which so far is quite good from your part.

  2. Sibs says:

i think this is a good call from James Chamanga. Let the Fashions, Dakas, A.Mulengas grow. If we want Chamnga back we might as well bring Mbesuma back as well. For me one player who can make an impact for 50-60 minutes of play is R. Kalaba that’s the player we need in the team. He still can ran at defenders and playing a big role at TP Mazembe. Mbesuma and Chamanga are playing at madala level.
