CAF confirm they are looking into the Sikazwe controversy

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that it’s looking into the controversy surrounding the Tunisia vs Mali clash which was officiated by top Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe.

Sikazwe whistled for full-time twice before the end of the allocated 90 minutes.

CAF says it’s forwarding reports of the match to the necessary bodies. This is according to a statement availed to the ZamFoot Crew.

“In relation to the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations match between Tunisia and Mali played in Limbe on 12 January 2022, CAF is gathering all the necessary reports from the officials at the match.

CAF is forwarding these documents to the competent bodies of CAF.

At this stage, CAF is not in a position to make further comment until the responsible bodies indicate the way forward.”

It has now emerged that Sikazwe allegedly suffered a heatstroke and was rushed to a medical centre after the match.

Egyptian journalist, Tarek Talaat revealed the development in a tweet.

Janny Sikazwe is one of the continent’s finest referees with a career of about 14 years experience.

He has taken charge of a CAF Champions League final, and African Cup of Nations final, as well as matches at FIFA World Cup , the FIFA Arab Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup final.
