CAF CL: Kabaso Chongo earns Mazembe vital point in Algeria
Zambian international defender Kabaso Chongo scored an equalizer for TP Mazembe to rescue a point against ES Setif of Algeria which secured their qualification to the quarter finals of the 2018 CAF Champions League.
Chongo, Rainford Kalaba and Nathan Sinkala were all named in the starting line-up for TP Mazembe in this away match.
The 26 year old defender played at center back while Sinkal slotted into the defensive midfield role.
Kalaba who lasted 55 minutes in the game played in his usual attacking role on the left.
The Algerians took the lead in the 59th minute with a well taken shot which beat goalkeeper Gbohouo at the far post.
With 14 minutes to play, Mazembe were awarded a free kick which was played into the box. The goalkeeper punched the resultant header into the path of Chongo for the former Konkola Mine Police star to head home for the equalizer.
The draw leaves Mazembe on top of the group with 11 points while the rest of the teams ES Setif, MC Alger and Difaâ El Jadida are all locked on 5 points with one more round of games to play.
