Barclays Cup: Bornwell Mwape brace sends 10 man Nkana to semis

Bornwell Mwape scored twice for 10 man Nkana FC to help them sail to the semi finals of the 2016 Barclays Cup competition after beating Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy (KYSA) 3 – 1.

The best chance of the first half fell to Walter Bwalya who controlled well on his chest in the 6 yard box but saw his shot go over the bar with only the keeper at his mercy.

Bornwell Mwape then also failed to convert from point blank range.

KYSA were an exciting opposition and they played some neat passing football but critically lacked in the final third of attack.

The Division One club were then given a lucky break when league top scorer Wlter Bwalya was given a straight red card for elbowling the KYSA keeper as he jumped for the ball in the 40th minute.

The second resumed with KYSA pressing and their efforts were rewarded when Amos Simwanza was beaten on the left and he pulled down the attacker for ther referee to point to the spot.

Daniel Chama converted the resultant penalty in the 51st minute.

After the introcution of Jacob Ngulube for Harriso Chongo, Bornwell Mwape seemed to find most space to operate and he benefitted from a Ngulube cross to head home the equalizer.

Mwape continued to ne a thorn in the KYSA defense as he looked like scoring with every run he made.

It was no surprise when hw pounced on a through ball, checked inside to beat his marker before he unleashed a strong low shot the went straight into the goal.

Mwape could have scored 5 goals in the game but for his wastefulness.

The final goal was scored by Austin Muwowo in the referee’s optional time.

In the other quarter final, Zanaco beat Kabwe Warriors 3 – 0.

Seth Sakala and Isaac Chansa were on target.
