Black Aces midfielder lauds coach for Mbesuma’s form

Mpumalanga Black Aces midfielder Aubrey Ngoma believes coach Muhsin Ertugral has played a key role in Collins Mbesuma’s good start to the season which has yielded five goals in six League games.

The Mpatamato bred bulky striker is now the leading top scorer in the PSL.

In comparison, ‘Ntofontofo’ netted just six goals in 33 matches last season, including five substitute appearances.

“We have a good coach,” Ngoma tells this website.

“The coach was at the U-20 World Cup where he was analysing games and he said that 90 percent of the goals [at the World Cup] were scored from inside the box, so he told Collins to always be inside the box to increase his chances. So now he is a box striker and when the wingers or midfielders have the ball, he is inside the box unlike before. I think that has a made a big difference,” he says.

Meanwhile, Ngoma has also heaped praise on Ertugral who has guided the side to second place behind Platinum Stars with both sides on 14 points after six League matches.

He adds: “Like I said, he is a good coach and he knows what he wants. So he analyses games individually and knows the strengths of most PSL players.”

Meanwhile Mbesuma has given credit to coach Muhsin Ertugral for his bright start to the season.

Mbesuma hit a brace in Mpumalanga Black Aces’ 2-1 win at Golden Arrows in midweek,

The Zambian, who netted against Orlando Pirates last week, also recently scored for his national team in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

“First of all I have to help the team and the most important thing is the team, and individual accolades comes after,” says Mbesuma, who plundered an unmatched 35 goals for Kaizer Chiefs in 2004/05.

“We need to finish in the top three and win trophies. As a striker you have to think to score every chance you get in every game.

The coach said, ‘You are my experienced player and you have been in football,’ and now we got a good relationship and he is helping me a lot.”

The 31-year-old also stressed the importance of looking after one’s body.

“The age is just a number as long as you are keeping yourself in check; keep training and the sky is the limit,” Mbesuma says.

“You have to look after your body. The more you are getting older, the more you have to look after your body. Details [of what you eat] and work hard… it is not easy.”
