Big six tournament off to an exciting start…Napsa and Indeni share spoils

NAPSA Stars and Indeni on Friday afternoon battled to a 1-all draw in the first of the doubleheader lunchtime Kick-off as the Big Six Pre-season preparatory tournament got underway in Lusaka at National Heroes Stadium.

It was an interesting match with the Ndola based side who made a return to the elite MTN/FAZ Super League having a feel and a test of top-flight football against a big gun and hosts of this Tournament NAPSA Stars who are making their debut appearance in the CAF Inter-clubs competition.

The two teams shared the spoils but however, both coaches expressed happiness with the way their players accounted themselves but said match fitness is what they want to work on.

Speaking in a postmatch interview with the ZamFoot Crew after the game at Heroes Stadium, NAPSA Stars Coach Mohamad Fathi said he is happy with the performance of the new players and also those who never used to have enough game time last season.

“It was a very good game, we tried new players and also the young stars, and most of those who spent their time on the bench last season played very well,” Fathi speaking.

The Pensioners equalized in the 60th minute through Timothy Otieno and Fathi feels they could have scored more goals, but he was quick to mention that the main aim of the tournament is to try and monitor the players.

“We missed a lot of chances, the second half was much better than the first half but so far so good, this is what we want from the tournament to try our players and monitor the team in general and the level of individual players during the games,” he said.

On the other hand his counterpart from Indeni, Coach Dabid Chilufya said his team was exposed in some areas due to lack of fitness but overall he has picked up positives from the game.

“It was a good game, the other thing is that it has exposed us in one way or the other in some areas, we feel match fitness is not there. Besides we had not even trained we just came here to play. I feel the team played well in the first half, second half they got tired because of levels of fitness,” Chilufya told the ZamFoot Crew

“As coaches, we have seen where we are lacking and also pick up from, otherwise its a very good tournament sponsored by NAPSA,” he added

Graven Chitalu scored the opener for Indeni in the 28th minute before Kenyan International Timothy Otieno equalized for the Pensioners 60th minute to make it 1-1.

NAPSA Stars’ next match is tomorrow 3rd October 2020 against Sensational Zanaco at 15:00hrs while Indeni will lock horns with The Bankers on Sunday in a lunchtime Kick-off.

In the second match of the day, Green Buffaloes gave Continental football-bound Forest Rangers a reality check as they handed them a 2-0 defeat at Heroes Stadium. Goals from Martin Phiri and Youremember Banda gave the soldiers a well deserved a 2-0 win.
