Bayern Munich wins Bundesliga and more English Premier League action this weekend
Bayern Munich has won the Bundesliga championship for the 8th time in a row. The champions secured the league title on Tuesday after beating SV Werder Bremen 1-0. It was a match filled with a lot of emotions as the log leaders ended up playing with 10 men after Alfonso Davies got a second yellow card and was sent away by the referee in the 79th minute. Already leading, Bayern held on to their 1-0 lead until the final whistle and it was all smiles cheer on their side.
More excitement followed after that as 1 FSV Mainz 05 surprised everyone when they beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 on Wednesday the 17th. The 15th placed Mainz went on the offensive and scored both goals in the first half. They walked away with their 10th win this season.
Crossing to England, it was a great re-start in the English premier league as two matches were played on Wednesday night. The first match between Aston Villa and Sheffield United ended in a 0-0 draw. The second and final match for the night between Manchester City and Arsenal came with three goals. Second on the log Manchester City beat Arsenal 3-0. City’s forward Raheem Sterling opened the scoreboard just before the half time. The gunners were left limping as their defender David Luiz was given a red card just after the second half resumed. Two more goals were scored after that and City walked away with three points.
Going into the weekend, the EPL continues with 9 matches to be played starting from Friday. Norwich City and Southampton will open, then Tottenham and Manchester United will close Friday evening when they go head to head. Among others playing will be Aston Villa against Chelsea while Liverpool will be looking to extend their lead on the log when they play Everton Sunday night.
