Barbara Banda nets first hat-trick in China
Barbara Banda scored her first hat-trick in the China Taiping CFA Women’s Super League this morning as she led Shanghai Shengli to a comfortable 4-1 win over Beijing BG Phoenix.
Banda came into the match after failing to record a goal last Saturday for the first time this season and was eager to get back to scoring goals. The Copper Queens captain only needed five minutes to get her first goal of the match as she converted from the spot after she was hacked by Beijing BG goalkeeper Chu Qiao in the box.
Five minutes later Banda made it 2-0 after being put on goal by a beautiful pass from Tang Jaili. Phoenix pulled one back 16 minutes later after Zhang Xinyue well taken free-kick beat the Shengli goalkeeper. Jaili restored Shengli’s lead 18 minutes into the second half after converting from 18 yards.
Banda completed the demolition two minutes to time after outpacing the Phoenix defenders and finishing off with a powerful left-footed strike, 4-1 the match finished.
The win means Shengli has now made it six wins in as many games and remain the only team yet to drop points after Wuhan were held to a 1-1 draw by Changchun Dazhong. Shengli opens a two-point lead at the summit.
Defending Champions, Jiangsu Suning returned to winning ways as they thrashed Shandong Sports Lottery 4-1 with Malawian star forward Tabitha Chawinga contributing a goal and an assist.
Guangdong Meizhou Huijun recorded their second consecutive win as they humiliated Hebei China Fortune 5-0 who drop to bottom and remain the only team yet to pick up a point after Zhejiang Hangzhou held Henan Jianye to a goalless draw.
