2018 AWCON: End of the road for Zambia

South Africa 1 – 1 Zambia

Zambia bowed out of the ongoing Total Women Africa Cup of Nations after playing out to a 1 – 1 draw against South Africa.

Bruce Mwape’s charges need an outright win to have a chance of making it to the semi finals but they made a poor start to the game and conceded in the 8th minute.

Star striker Rachael Kundananji kept Zambia’s hopes alive when she calmly pounced on a through ball to expertly finish off a good move for Zambia’s equalizer in the 10th minute.

The Bruce Mwape mentored lasses were pushing from a second from then on but it was a tough evening against the formidable Banyana Banyana.

South Africa controlled most of the possession in the second half and could have added their advantage but for the brilliance of Hazel Nali in goal.

Zambia return home with one win, one loss and a draw with the highlight being their 5 – 0 thumping of Equatorial Guinea in the opening match.

In the other match of the group, defending champions Nigeria annihilated Equatorial Guinea 6 – 0.

South Africa top the group on 7 points, Nigeria 6 points, Zambia 4 points while Equatorial Guinea return home without a point.

    Kamanga must go.
What was Bruce Mwape doing with that team? Those girls had a female coach at COSAFA, why did they sideline her? Soccer is only won by happy and rejoicing players.

  2. C. Juma says:

Kamanga do you still want to keep your job? I knew we started well but the moment you allowed the new coach to fly to Ghana straight from Mozambique where lost, I knew the tactics to be implored will be similar to the ones we used in Mozambique.

  3. J.c.m says:

Kkkkkk maybe someone was inciting the girls

  4. Star 1 says:

To be honest, the girls tried. Lets not blame Sven or Kamanga. Sometimes football is like that. Let’s remember the only game the girls lost was to Nigeria. Nigeria is the defending champions and are the tournamet’s favourite. Pls the girls tried. Weldone girls for even qualifying and playing.

  5. Kasama Boy says:

To be honest I didn’t expect our girls to perform as they did.
They are learning by attending these tournaments.
So make it a habit and lets move on.
    Congratulations. Try again next time
