AFCON 2024 Groups Overview
In each section below, you can find details about the upcoming AFCON groups and teams. You will discover information about the AFCON betting favourites for each group and details on the underdog nations.
Group A
Equatorial Guinea |
Guinea-Bissau |
Ivory Coast |
Nigeria |
First, the AFCON hosts, Ivory Coast, will be Group A favourites with three-time champions Nigeria.
Ivory Coast last won the tournament in 2015 and will be confident of performing well in front of a home crowd. Nigeria will also be tough to beat after topping their qualification group.
Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea will be the underdogs in the group after both sides finished runners-up in qualification.
Group B
Cape Verde |
Egypt |
Ghana |
Mozambique |
As the most successful team ever in the Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt will be the main favourites in Group B.
The Pharaohs were runners-up in 2021 and finished top in group qualifiers. But Ghana were also strong in the qualifying rounds, going unbeaten and finishing first in their group.
2013 quarter-finalists Cape Verde came second in their qualifying group and might struggle.
Also, Mozambique has never progressed past an AFCON group stage ever before. The Mambas could also be in danger of an early exit.
Group C
Cameroon |
Gambia |
Guinea |
Senegal |
Group C could be one of the most challenging AFCON groups with Egypt, Senegal, Guinea and Gambia.
Five-time champions and current Africa Cup of Nations title-holders Senegal will be the favourites here. But Guinea got some good results in qualifying when facing the likes of Egypt.
In addition, 2021 quarter-finalists Gambia lost just two of six games in qualification and they could cause an upset.
Group D
Algeira |
Angola |
Algeria |
Mauritania |
Algeria are the likely favourites to get the most points in Group D.
The North African team was unbeaten in qualifying and won the AFCON in 2019. Algeria, Angola, Burkina Faso and Mauritania might face a three-way battle for points.
Angola is one of the lowest-ranked nations in the AFCON and is 126th in the FIFA rankings. However, Burkina Faso is one of the stronger teams in Group D after winning their qualifiers group.
Lastly, Mauritania has not progressed past a group stage in their previous two AFCON appearances.
Group E
Mali |
Namibia |
South Africa |
Tunisia |
Group E could be another tough contest with some big fixtures coming. Tunisia and South Africa are the two stronger teams.
In qualifying, Tunisia lost once and conceded once in six fixtures. South Africa returned to their first AFCON since 2019 after losing just one match during qualifying.
Mali are another strong team that won five of six qualifiers. However, Namibia, who entered just their fourth AFCON finals, will be the group underdogs.
Group F
DR Congo |
Morocco |
Tanzania |
Zambia |
Lastly, World Cup 2022 semi-finalists Morocco will be the favourites in Group F at the Africa Cup of Nations. DR Congo will be another strong side after they won their qualifying group.
But Zambia and Tanzania could struggle for results.
Zambia have not entered the AFCON finals since 2015 but won the tournament in 2012. Also, Tanzania could face a tough test as they are ranked 130th in the FIFA rankings.
