2019 Zambia Super League to start in January

The 2019 Zambia Super league Season (MTN/FAZ Super League ) is expected to start in January , The ZamFoot crew understands. This is in order to align the League with the new CAF calendar.

After the end of this season’s CAF inter clubs competitions a transitional calendar which allows the CAF club competitions to switch from a February-to-November schedule to an August–to-May schedule, as per the decision of the CAF Executive Committee on 20 July 2017 will be implemented.

This means the CAF inter clubs competitions will start in December 2018, right after the 2018 season has finished, and end in May 2019, before the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (which has been switched from January/February to June/July). The next season will then start after the Africa Cup of Nations and follow the new calendar

To this effect the league will be divided into two with 10 teams playing in a North league and 10 other clubs in the South League.

Lusaka clubs like Sensational Zanaco, Lusaka dynamos, Red Arrows Nkwazi and others will be paired alongside Southern Province teams. Those teams in the Copperbelt like Zesco United, Power dynamos and Nkana will play in the North League.

The top two teams from each zone will play to play continental football in the 2019/2020 season. The teams with the most points will play the CAF Champions League then the other two will play the CAF Confederations Cup.

The League will however revert to the normal way in 2020 as the 2019 model is a transitional league.

No offence but this idea of splitting the league into two just doesn’t sound right to me. You will deprive other regions of the much needed fanfare when teams such as Nkana, Power, Zesco or Mighty visit midlands or indeed any other part of the country. Very few clubs in Lusaka can pull crowds like the way Copperbelt teams do. The league will be boring

With less than a week before Zambia host Guinea Bissau.the fans have no idea which players are coming for the host team.Honestly how do you fill the stadium to capacity if by now no publicity about the game taking place in less than a week.FAZ should be serious.even Zamfoot is quite as if nothing is happening.
