Zesco, Zanaco to square off in Barclays Cup final
The 2016 Barclays Cup final takes centre stage this afternoon when holders Zesco United take on in form Zanaco at Lusaka’s 60, 000 seater
On social media, the match has already been dubbed as the loadsheders v the Xarpit Boys. It’s a dream cup final.
Zesco United are going into the tie as slight favourites owing to their CAF Champions League semi final run.
The Ndola side have won it a record four times including last season’s domestic double.
A win for Zanaco this afternoon could see themselves take a claim on a league and cup double as they just need a point to win the 2016 title.
On the pitch, Zesco coach Tenant Chembo will look to the likes David Odhimba and Simon Silwimba to marshal the defence and thwart Zanaco strike force led by Charles Zulu, Seith Salama and Fashion Sakala.
In midfield, Zambia’s midfield pairing against Cameroon of Misheck Chaila and Kondwani Mtonga will go head to head with Isaac Chansa and Boys Musonda. Chansa is one of the high scoring midfielders in the league with 7 goals.
Upfront, Zanaco’s Rodrick Kabwe could be the one to watch from the flanks while Jesse Were and Idriss Mbombo will be Chembo’s main attacking threat.
A domestic double for Numba Mumamba will rank him as one of the best emerging young coaches in the country.
