Zesco United’s strikeforce good enough to land CAF Champions league
2017 MTN/FAZ super league Champions Zesco United have assembled a good squad heading into the 2018 season and as usual will be one of the teams to look out for this year. The Ndola based giants will represent Zambia in the CAF Champions league alongside runners Sensational Zanaco hence all eyes are on them since continental football breaks the club barrier and becomes a matter of national interest.
2015 Zambian player of the year, Winston Kalengo has returned at end if his two year spell with Congo Brazzaville out-fit A.C. Leopards. The return of Kalen’goal’ may shake up Zesco United’s strike force but surely will add of value to Zega Mambo.
Kalengo is not the only addition to that strikeforce because their is a certain Zikiru Adams who they acquired from Nchanga Rangers and a young Lameck Banda from High flying Nkwazi.
With these three you already have quite a decent attacking trio but then add a Kenyan talisman in Jesse Jackson Were, an improved Lazarous Kambole, Jackson Mwanza, Maybin Kalengo and Dave Daka in the mix.
Coach Tenant Chembo will have a tough time making up his mind who which partnership to use for which game but one thing which is clear is that the team has enough fire Power to compete favourably both on the local scene and continental level.
Jesse has been a consistent figure leading Zesco United in the last two seasons but Kalengo’s return may easy that pressure on the Kenyan.
Kalengo before his derpature was Zesco’s most reliable talisman and has alot of experience both in the Super league and playing continental football.
Zikiru Adams is a Ghanian striker wh who came to stardom after scoring 13 goals in 15 games for Nchanga Rangers propelling them to survive relegation, A tally that even the late Godfrey Ucar Chitalu would be proud of.
Jackson Mwanza has been in the Zesco United set up for a very long time and seems to come to the party whenever needed . He might not very consistent nor very skilful but he is a reliable asset and will get United some very crucial goals.
Chembo also has 17 year old Lameck Banda in his team. The youngster came on the scene last season and was an instant star of the Super league scoring in big games and running at defenders at will making him one of the most tricky strikers for defenders in the last half of last season.
Lazarous Kambole was the best revelation of the 2017 season and is one player Zesco United faithfuls will be expecting alot from and he seems determined to do just that. Kambole who is currently in Morocco with the Zambia National team has grown into one of the most lethal strikers around and will have alot to say about Zesco United’s 2018 season should he continue his steady progress.
Dave Daka and Maybin Kalengo did not have the best of season but will want to put that behind them and prove their worth moreover Kambole also got alot of criticism thrown in his direction but has changed that into loud cheers instead of jeers.
With this strikeforce Zesco United have a good chance of winning this years CAF Champions league but they will need to keep their players happy and fit ofcourse needless to say all departments needs to be at 100 percent if that dream has to be realised.
