Zesco United, Zanaco, Green Buffaloes or Nkana!! Who will be crowned champions?
The race for the 2017 MTN/FAZ super league title will tomorrow come to an end as a Champions will be crowned after a long and exciting season of twists and turns.
Not so powerful Power Dynamos at some point looked like a team that will be competing to win the title as they were still undefeated at week 16 but they drew more games than they needed to and could not even secure a continental spot.
Napsa Stars gave traditional big boys a scare as they made their way to the summit and made It home for sometime before a six game losing streak saw them drop out of the top four.
In the end it’s back to the usual suspects Zesco United, Zanaco and Nkana with Green Buffaloes as this season’s surprise package fighting to win the 10kg Copper coated trophy and bragging rights.
Zesco United lead the pack with 71 points with Green Buffaloes and Zanaco just a point behind them and Nkana a further two more points away but all with a chance of lifting the prestigious trophy.
Zesco United have the best chance of winning the league with their fate held by themselves as they don’t depend on any other team to help them win. A win for Zesco United instantly crowns them Champions while the other three depend on results elsewhere.
Defending champions Sensational Zanaco are second on the log with only goal difference separating them and third placed Green Buffaloes. Zanaco have the best goal difference among the four teams.
In a scenario that they all are equal on points meaning Zesco losing to Wanderers with Zanaco and Green Buffaloes drawing while Nkana wining Zanaco will most likely win the league as they have about five more goals than any of the the other three contenders.
If opponents are to be put into perspective Zanaco might have the best chance as they face Forest Rangers whose only fight is to finish in a good position as they survived relegation already.
Green Buffaloes face a relegation threatened Green Eagles. Both teams need to win to in their different fights. Eagles need the win for survival while Green Buffaloes have a first league title since 1981 on sights.
Nkana have the slimmest of chances among the four teams as they need Zesco United and Zanaco to lose then GBFC to atleast record a draw.
