Zesco United host Red Arrows

Zesco United eye second position on Wednesday they hosts Red Arrows in a rescheduled Week 4 match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The defending FAZ Super Division champions turn their focus back onto domestic affairs exactly seven days after losing 2-0 away to Wydad Casablanca in a Group A fixture on match-day-two of the 2016 CAF Champions League.

Victory over Arrows will lift Zesco, who have four games in hand, to 31 points, tied with Nkana who currently occupy that spot.

Meanwhile, Zesco will be hunting for their third straight league win over Arrows following back-to-back victories over the Lusaka club last season.

Zesco beat Arrows 2-0 away in Lusaka last August after picking up a 3-2 home victory at Levy earlier April last season.

Meanwhile, George Lwandmina’s side is at full strength but influential midfielder Cletus Chama is the only absentee following his red card in their 2-0 away win over Lusaka Dynamos.

Striker Jesse Were will be banked on for goals to try and emulate the three goals the man whose shoes has filled at Zesco Winston Kalengo who left this season to join AC Leopards of Congo-Brazzaville.

Meanwhile, visiting Arrows are 11th going into the match on 20 points with one win and four draws from their last six matches played in June.

  2. This site is boring. There is nothing to report on player transfer and a search for the coach. What are the statuses of the two?

    • I thought someone told me there was no more secondary school tournaments?
MWAVI Secondary School assistant coach Hankombo Kampengele says his team is ready for the Copa Coca-Cola tournament and prepared to beat defending champions Chizongwe Secondary School.

Kampengele is confident his side will win the title this year. He said his team was injuryfree and player Fidelis Tembo who was recovering from malaria was responding well to treatment.

“We are ready for Chizongwe and it is unfortunate we are not in the same group, but during the course of the tournament, we will meet them, we are ready for them,” said Kampengele who added that his team was also ready for the Inter Africa Stars Championships scheduled for South Africa this September, which would be one of the benefits of winning the Copa Coca-Cola tournament.

Lusaka Province’s Mwavi Secondary School is in Group B of the tournament that is scheduled to take place at the Olympic Youth Development Centre starting today July 6-9.

Other teams participating in the tournament include Solwezi and Ituna, Muchinga, Kaoma, Nchelenge, Chifubu and Mine secondary schools.

  3. Here guys, I got you covered, forget Zamfoot, I will dig out news out there and give it to you.
THE Ministry of Sports has asked FAZ to submit a budget for the Chipolopolo coach.

And FAZ general secretary Ponga Liwewe says quality coaches are not cheap.

Sources from the government have revealed that the ministry has written to the association seeking to know how much the Chipolopolo coach would be getting.

“They have written to FAZ over the amount to be paid to the coach, FAZ are yet to submit figures,” said the source.

And Liwewe said the association was in discussion with the government over the salary of the coach.

Liwewe, who could not state the figure, said FAZ had set a range which was being discussed.

“We have preliminary discussions. At this point, those discussions are still ongoing with government so I can’t state the figure but we have a range that we are discussing. We can come up with a figure that meets the requirement of the level of coach that we are looking for,” Liwewe said.

He said a quality coach would be expensive.

“High quality coaches are expensive. The country really makes a sacrifice, when there are so many other areas of critical importance for the government. So we understand that it’s not an easy decision to make but we want to get a coach that will make a difference, somebody that can deliver the success,” said Liwewe, adding that FAZ would accelerate the process so that Chipolopolo can start their preparations for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

  5. TC Soccerman, way to go. If zamfoot delays and you have data, please share and we discuss. meanwhile, I hope Mighty did their due diligence. This is from a Zim newspaper :

    Silva resurfaces in Zambia

Former Dynamos coach Paulo Jorge Silva has resurfaced in Zambia to end his short stint in Zimbabwe where he found no joy.

Zambian media yesterday reported that the nomadic Portuguese has been appointed head coach of MTN-FAZ Super League side Mighty Mufulira Wanderers on a three-year contract.

He replaced Chewe Mulenga, who has been relegated to the assistant role.

Wanderers secretary-general Goodwell Mateyo confirmed Silva’s arrival.

“We have a new coach, Paulo Jorge Silva, will take charge of the team. For continuity’s sake, he will be assisted by Chewe Mulenga and Mr Kashimoto [Moses],” Mateyo said.

Silva has been given a target of keeping the team’s status in the league. Mufulira currently sit 12th on the log with 18 points.

“At the moment, the primary target is to ensure that the team secures its stay in the Super League, then we will raise our targets.

He [Silva] comes in at midseason and sustaining our position in the league is a must,” Mateyo said.

Silva, whose coaching history before he came to Zimbabwe is questionable, was fired by Dynamos three months into his three- year contract following a disastrous start to the season where the team managed just five points from a possible 15.

He only managed to beat Mutare City Rovers while earning two points from draws against Hwange and Triangle.

After a bad start, Silva’s target was revised to nine points from matches against Mutare City Rovers, Caps United and Hwange and he fell short.

Since his departure, Dynamos have risen to position five and are now challenging for the title following four straight wins.

When Silva arrived in Zimbabwe, he claimed to have coached a number of top clubs around the world including VfB Stuttgart of Germany and Portuguese giants FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon.

However, investigations by NewsDaySport later exposed that he never worked for those teams in any capacity.

Contrary to reports that he featured as a goalkeeper for FC Porto and the Portuguese national team during his playing days, it was established that the coach never played top-flight football, but district football.

He later confessed that the biography on Wikipedia which bears his name is actually not his. He said he never played as a goalkeeper.

He arrived in Zimbabwe after he had been sacked by Nigerian side COD United, just two months into his two-year contract.

  6. And what is Mufulira Wonderers looking for in such a character. There is no need to hire such a person. The bottom line is that he is not known for anything good in the soccer fraternity.
