Zesco United beat Zanaco to league title in 2017 photo finish

Zesco United claimed a 6th Zambia FAZ MTN Super League title with aplomb when they came from behind to thump 10 man relegated Mighty Mufurila Wanderers 4-2.

It was a photo finish to the league with leaders Zesco, defending champions Zanaco, Green Buffaloes and record champions Nkana all going into the final round of games with a chance to win the title.

Things were looking good for the chasing pack as Zesco trailed Mufulira Wanderers 2 – 1 after Guily Manziba had given the Maite the lead with a brace.

This was after John Chingandu had opened the scores in the second minute.

Jackson Were then buried a Fackson Kapumbu cross before he scored another from a Kambole assist.

With Mbengele red carded, Zesco added another through man of the match Kambole.

Zanaco will claim second position after they beat Forest Rangers 2 – 0.

Chipolopolo striker Augustine Mulenga scored a second half brace but it was not enough to win the title which they missed by a point.

Nkana were in uncompromising mood on the final day as they beat Konkola Blades 4 – 0 to move a step ahead of Green Buffaloes into third position.

Buffaloes who drew 0-0 against Green Eagles finish fourth.
