Zesco loadsheds Zanaco in Barclays Cup final
An Idriss Ilunga Mbombo’s second half goal was enough to earn Zesco United a 1-0 win over Zanaco as the Ndola side claimed the 2016 Barclays Cup trophy.
Both sides named strong starting lineups with Zega coach Tenant Chembo featuring just six Zambians while Numba Mumamba had only Attam Kwame with the rest Zambians.
Having braved the rains, the neutral fans got disappointed with Zanaco after a lacklustre performance in the first half which saw the CAF Champions League semi finalist dominate with Mbombo hitting the upright.
Many saw this as Zanaco’s continental test but the league Champions elect faltered and failed to send a signal to the rest of Africa.
For Zesco, despite their recent turmoil, they have managed to end the season with a trophy and a record 5th Barclays Cup trophy.
