Zesco handed first loss of the season by Forest
Defending champions Zesco United on Wednesday afternoon suffered their first loss of the season as they registered a two one against local town rivals Forest Rangers.
Zesco United went into the match with top spot in sight, With that view the Team ya Ziko came out in full force and nearly got the opener and their second within 20 minutes but both chances fell to Jesse Jackson Were who fluffed his lines on both occasions.
Forest however took the lead against the run of play in the 28th minute with a beautifully headed goal from Kobe Chipeta with Marcel Kalonda helping it on it’s way in.
Zesco could not however be kept at bay for long as they were attacking with a lot of purporse. Jesse Jackson Were went on an amazing run on the right win and it had to take a foul to stop him just near the edge of the box for a dangerously placed free kick in the 42nd minute.
Fackson Kapumbu stepped up and wonderfully as Zesco United pulled level to go to break with the scoreline at 1-1.
In the second half it was Forest Rangers again who struck first with Patrick Ilunga putting the Perry Mutapa tutored side in the lead in the 58th minute.
Emmanuel Siwale made a number of changes withdrawing Jesse for Logic Ching’andu, John Chin’gandu fir Mwape Mwelwa and Misheck Chaila for Jackson Mwanza just to try and find the equaliser but to no avail.
Forest Rangers could have scored a third after Jacob Banda’s poor timing gave Kobe Chipeta a clear chance at goal and it had to take Marcel Kalonda to clear on the line as the match ended 2-1 in favour of Forest Rangers.
