Zesco United may rue the missed chances but will be glad to take a 2 – 0 lead into the CAF Champions league preliminary stage second leg encounter against Al Ghazala Wau FC of South Sudan.
Zesco were dominant in the first leg and were in the lead as early as the 6th minute when new signing Idris Mbombo (in picture) scored his first champions league goal.
The Congolese striker straight from division one could have doubled the score but was denied by the woodwork in the 26th minute.
With the South Sudanese team looking happy to take back home a 1 – 0 deficit, Zesco added another in injury time through Clatous Chama to ensure that they take a 2 – 0 cushion to South Sudan in a fortnight.
With Skipper Jocob Banda out due to injury, George Lwandamina named Lameck Nyangu in goal in a team that only had five local players in the starting eleven.
Zesco XI v Al Ghazala Wau FC
Lameck Nyangu – Dauti Musekwa, Ayo Olowafemi (Maybin Mwaba), Ben Adama, David Owino, Anthony Okumi Agay (John Chingandu), Clatous Chama, Misheck Chaila, Idris Mbombo, Jesse Were (Lazarous Kambole), Mwape Mwelwa
Well done, they must now concentrate on finishing the job in Sudan.
Only 5 local players in the starting line up? This is what South Africans don’t want. Faz do something. This is giving foreign players the match needed experience at the expence of locals. Our players have to step up.
NO they are giving our local players competition. If SA does doesn’t mean we should do the same…
Agree with you. Our local players guys need a wake up call as they seem to have become too complacent and think positions in local teams are personal to holder regardless of their performance.
@gb: Competition develops players. Our players need that competition to up the Zambian game!
Have Zanaco been given a bye in the preliminary round of the confederation cup or what’s happening to them?
Yes ba Donca, zesco have to up their game otherwise i dont see them going very far. These are de teams we should be beeting with biger margins bane.
Zesco are not contenders in Champions League despite having more foreing players. Not very impresive
Well done guys! bt de game u played is jst a 45min half time.zesco wth u wanted to go far u could hve gone those zambian who are out de country but bench warmes de likes of mukuka mulenga, bonwell mwapa,E.mayuka, chris katonga en his brother than buying those guys
Only five zambians in a team if this cont de chipolopolo will suffer big tym
So ZESCO UTD FC has hired foreign plunks who can fail to white wash a crap team from South Sudan? This is not good for Zambian football.
it’s high time we started watching these matches live on TV….buying CAF / FAZ / FIFA rights(or whatever they are called) and what not should be done before the season kicks off….even radio commentaries-zero….let’s embrace professionalism & modernization…congrats zega….don’t complain of foreign players, look at the EPL/LALIGA e.t.c even just here pa DRC # T.P Mazembe teams
Charly Musonda scored in Real Betis draw on saturday
It’s good for competition sake.
am tired of hearing about charley Musonda.please forget about the boy….he will never play for Zambia
@sulu also welbeck scored 4 arsenal.
congrats to zesco ,but don’t be over confidence about ka 2 zero win , you can be shocked in south Sudan
The league should start quickly. It will give ZESCO the fillip to integrate, coordinate and develop telepathy.
Congratulations.
Well done Zega..but it doesnt look like a very strong start
Herve Renard has been confirmed as the new Morocco coach until the 2018 World cup in Russia.-Goal.com
I think zesco has hired low than average players they would have hired better players in the league its not about foregn we must hire quality not like zesko luk at zesco with sakuwaha that time they played well and competed i dont suport below average players at a top club like zesco
cameroon & morocco they hv named their new coaches for afcon & word cup qualifiers.
we are going no where with lwandamina we need an expertrat coach. if the the government & faz dont hv money we are asking the account no. so that we can help them the money to pay for an expertrat coach who can qualify us to the world cup.
lwandamina shud be assistant not a head coach, we are tired of chipante pante football.
ZESCO should learn to be ruthless in front of goal. If you can’t take your chances at home it will tough away especially in next rounds.
zesco wil reach the semi finals
