Zesco beat Al Ghazala Wau in Champions league opener

Zesco United may rue the missed chances but will be glad to take a 2 – 0 lead into the CAF Champions league preliminary stage second leg encounter against Al Ghazala Wau FC of South Sudan.

Zesco were dominant in the first leg and were in the lead as early as the 6th minute when new signing Idris Mbombo (in picture) scored his first champions league goal.

The Congolese striker straight from division one could have doubled the score but was denied by the woodwork in the 26th minute.

With the South Sudanese team looking happy to take back home a 1 – 0 deficit, Zesco added another in injury time through Clatous Chama to ensure that they take a 2 – 0 cushion to South Sudan in a fortnight.

With Skipper Jocob Banda out due to injury, George Lwandamina named Lameck Nyangu in goal in a team that only had five local players in the starting eleven.

  1. Only 5 local players in the starting line up? This is what South Africans don’t want. Faz do something. This is giving foreign players the match needed experience at the expence of locals. Our players have to step up.

      • Agree with you. Our local players guys need a wake up call as they seem to have become too complacent and think positions in local teams are personal to holder regardless of their performance.

  2. Well done guys! bt de game u played is jst a 45min half time.zesco wth u wanted to go far u could hve gone those zambian who are out de country but bench warmes de likes of mukuka mulenga, bonwell mwapa,E.mayuka, chris katonga en his brother than buying those guys

  3. it’s high time we started watching these matches live on TV….buying CAF / FAZ / FIFA rights(or whatever they are called) and what not should be done before the season kicks off….even radio commentaries-zero….let’s embrace professionalism & modernization…congrats zega….don’t complain of foreign players, look at the EPL/LALIGA e.t.c even just here pa DRC # T.P Mazembe teams

  4. I think zesco has hired low than average players they would have hired better players in the league its not about foregn we must hire quality not like zesko luk at zesco with sakuwaha that time they played well and competed i dont suport below average players at a top club like zesco

  5. we are going no where with lwandamina we need an expertrat coach. if the the government & faz dont hv money we are asking the account no. so that we can help them the money to pay for an expertrat coach who can qualify us to the world cup.

  6. ZESCO should learn to be ruthless in front of goal. If you can’t take your chances at home it will tough away especially in next rounds.
