Zanaco’s performance only a tip of an iceberg
Zambia’s envoys in the CAF Champions league Sensational Zanaco on Saturday, February 10th beat Gambian out-fit Armed forces FC by a tune of three goals to nil courtesy of a Martin Phiri brace and a Ziyo Tembo header.
The bankers were in devastating form and could have thrashed their Gambian opponents by an even bigger margin but a bit of poor finishing and a poor final ball came to the rescue of the Gambian Champions.
From the onset it could be seen that Zanaco have something going with a tactician in the name of Numba Mumamba on charge it seems this team is set to reach greater heights .
THE RUSIKE EFFECT
Zimbabwean midfield ace Tafadzwa Rusike was the darling of the crowd at Nkoloma Stadium during Zanaco’s three nil win over Armed forces of Gambia . The former Ajax Cape town man was the king of the midfield, dictating play and making most of Zanaco’s attacks go through him.
Rusike has given Numba Mumamba the bankers be thing he lacked most, a sort of box to box midfielder who can string passes and create chances for the strikers.
OOH CHARLIE YOU BEAUTY
Charles Zulu seems have found ho s form and is ready to set up for the bankers. Zulu was the game charger during the 2017 Barclays cup final and Saturday was no different.
He used his pace to the benefit of the team and created a number of goal scoring opportunities.
THE STRETHENED STRIKEFORCE
The bankers have acquired a number of attacking players including Saturday’s hero Martin Phiri who netted a brace to propel Zanaco to a three nil home win.
Maisha Chavda, Chitiya Mususu and Guily Manziba made their debuts while Romaric Petroipa, Bernard Ofori and Chitoshi Mukuma were not even part of the team.
The club’s top goalscorer in 2017 Felix Nyaende was an unused substitute which shows how competitive the team has become. This will give players an extra motivation to work hard something Zanaco can benefit from and can only get better.
The performance on Saturday deserves to be applauded but that might be nothung compared to what this Zanaco team is capable of once it’s full potential is realised and utilised.
