Zanaco suffer defeat at home as they stare confed cup exit in the face
Sensational Zanaco’s hopes of progressing to the group stages of the the CAF confederation cup were left hanging by a thread after they suffered a two nil deafeat to Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca at the National Heroes Stadium.
Zanaco were clearly the better team in the first half but they did not utilise the possession. Raja on the other hand nearly went ahead 20 minutes into the match but their striker missed the best chance of the first half with only the ball to direct.
The first half ended with the match level but 23 minutes into the second half Raja went ahead as striker Mahmoud Benhalib scored in the 68th minute from a counter attack when he found himself in acres of space on the left wing.
Second half substitute Zakaria Hadraf doubled the Moroccans advantage as he capitalised from another counter to score from close range in the 75th minute.
Raja held on to win the match two nil but seemingly furius Zanaco fans started leaving the pitch even before the referee could blow the final whistle. Zanaco need to score three unanswered goals away in Casablanca to qualify to the group stages.
