ZANACO AND THE ABSA CUP

 

They have always been around from the first edition of the Barclay’s Cup and I will take you through the experiences of ZANACO in this competition which today we call ABSA CUP.

2007
Knocked out in the pre quarter final stage by Chambeshi. Chambeshi would then go all the way to the finals to lose to ZESCO UNITED.

2008
Knocked out in the Quarter finals by Lusaka Dynamos . That game ended 2-1 with goals coming from Josephat Nkhoma and Hichani Himoonde for Lusaka Dynamos and Bernard Bwalya for the consolation. ZANACO had beaten Zamtel on penalty shoot outs to qualify to the Semi finals

2009
knocked out in the quarter finals by Roan United .The game ended 1-0 with a goal for Roan from Arthur Kasoloki.

2010
The first final for ZANACO and the opponent was ZESCO United . ZANACO lost 2-0 , Alfred Luputa and Clifford Chipalo for the goals for ZESCO United.

2011
knocked out by Nkana in the Quarter finals , Evans Kangwa with a brace for Nkana.

2012
Quarter final exit against Lime Hotspurs and Henry Banda scored a brace of penalties for ZANACO in the game as that one ended 2-2. Lime Hotspurs won it on penalties .

2013
Knocked out at quarter final stage by Nchanga Rangers , the game ended 3-1.

2014
Quarter final exit at the hands of Konkola Blades the game ended 1-0.

2015
The second final berth for ZANACO and were knocked by Nkwazi the on penalty shoot outs. Nkwazi lost the final to Green Buffaloes.

2016
The second final for ZANACO and again it was against ZESCO UNITED. Idris Mbombo gave the Barclay’s Cup to ZESCO United with a lone goal.

2017

Finally the name ZANACO was added on the winners of the Barclay’s Cup and thanks to Felix Nyaende and Isaac Chansa for the goals. Felix is still with the team and Isaac moved to Forest Rangers .

2018

2019

ZESCO UNITED VS ZANACO
They fave a team they have faced in two finals and lost , that should be in the mind of those that have been with this team for a long time.

Come and witness how this pans out at Levy Mwanawasa . We shall add another history on how this will come out. The last visit for ZANACO at Levy was in the Transitional League and they got a point after a 0-0 , a game they thought they would win owing to the chances they had in the game.
