Zambia’s participation in Cecafa cup in doubt

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) hasn’t yet extended an invitation to Zambia for the participation in 2017 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup tournament, ZamFoot has established.

An official from CECAFA told zambianfootball.co.zm on Friday that no such invitation had been sent out to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) but added that it could be sent out in due course.

Amir Hussein, who is an executive committee member of the CECAFA, said that his organisation had not yet invited Zambia or any other guest nation, albeit them being initially included in the plans for this years tournament.

Hussein added that invitation of guest nations could only be done after CECAFA members had confirmed their participation in the competition which is scheduled to be hosted by Kenya from 25 November to 9 December, 2017.

“We have not yet invited Zambia, but I hope they will participate,” said Hussein.

“We want to wait for confirmation by all Cecafa members, then we can decide to invite other teams outside the region.”

Zambia may be forced to decline the invitation by Cecafa as they are bound by CAF rules and regulations on participating in tournaments outside their region a month preceding a major competition which they have qualified for.

Zambia have qualified for the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) which starts in January and ends in February.

The CECAFA tournament will return after one year of absence, after it was not held in 2016 after Sudan withdrew as the host nation.

Should we decide to send a team there. Pliz FAZ consider the home based U.20 stars+ their younger brothers in U.17.
This will boost their moral & prepare them for future assignments in bigger & better tasks….

Why wud Cecafa put up with such demeaning practices? They invite teams that provide formidable opposition with a view of uplifting standards in region.
