Zambia U20 warm up with friendly against Red Arrows

U-20 Africa Cup winning stars Mangani Banda and Enock Mwepu have beefed up the junior squad after joining camp.

And the Zambia U-20 Men’s Football Team warmed up with a practice match against Super Division side Red Arrows losing 3-1 at Nkoloma Stadium.

Banda and Mwepu who were part of the Africa Cup winning side were part of the squad although they did not play in the practice match at Nkoloma Stadium this morning.

Coach Beston Chambeshi gave new call ups a run-in as he shuffles his pieces ahead of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017.

Red Arrows striker Lubinda Mundia scored two goals with Francis Simwanza scoring from the spot.

It was midfielder Emanuel Banda who whipped in a long drive from a set piece that beat Red Arrows goal minder Medson Luwawa to give the U-20 some take home goal action.

Green Buffaloes’s Prince Bwalya was given a chance between the sticks while Chambeshi toyed with a Patrick Ngoma and Conlyde Luchanga partnership with Ngosa Sunzu given a chance in a holding role.

In reshuffled set, the holding role was handed to Emmanuel Banda with Harrison Chisala deployed just on the tip of the midfield while Luchanga retained his place upfront alongside Joseph Phiri of Red Arrows.

In the final set up the backline was lined up in familiar fashion with Shemmy Mayembe and Prosper Chiluya deployed as wingbacks while Moses Nyondo and Benson Chali took up the central heart of the defence.

Chambeshi has summoned 30 players to camp ahead of the FIFA U-20 World Cup where Zambia is in Group C alongside Portugal, Costa Rica and Iran.

The other players not in Chambeshi provisional 30-member list but are part of his world cup plans are Austria based Patson Daka, Spartak Moscow’s Fashion Sakala and Mwape Mumba of Getafe in Spain.

In another development, Edward ‘Tiger’ Chilufya whow had travelled to Sweden for trials is back in the country.

Zamfoot, kindly stop writing about Fashion Sakala as being part of this team, because you too know pretty well that he wont feature at the World Cup. Spare us please!

When did Edward Chilufya leave? has he even completed a week of trails? I hope this kid did not debunk his trials so that he can play for Lumwana….or maybe someone gave him the in the clouds idea that far much better offers will come after the world cup.

  8. Where are the fans who were proposing the boys be graduated to the senior national team with immediate alacrity? Let us admit these are still young boys good enough for their age group and level. The onus is now on FAZ to nurture them into senior players which can only materialise in future. Boys are boys and men are men, period! For instance, as finished a footballer as I am, I would need three school boys to handle me due to my superior stature and stamina. All in all, the point is let us give the boys a chance to prove themselves at all levels.

However, Patrick Ngoma is no longer under 20. I watched with him about two to three under 20 Afcon games and he usually referred to these boys as ‘his young boys’
