Zambia U20 squad off to FIFA World Cup, as outstanding dues are cleared
The Zambia U20 national team left Lusaka for Spain on Friday evening ahead of the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup tournament to be staged in South Korea.
The U20 African champions left at 21:30 aboard Emirates Airlines to start a one week conditioning camp in which will see them play a series of friendly games before they leave for Korea.
Coach Beston Chambeshi named his final 21 man squad on Friday but he only left with 19 players as Fashion Sakala and Patson Daka will only join the team next week to complete the squad.
The team had set up base in Spain prior to the Africa Cup of Nations final which they won on return.
And the Football Association of Zambia confirmed that the players were paid their outstanding dues before departure for the World Cup.
The players walked away with approximately USD 7,000.00.
Chambeshi’s lads have been placed in Group C where they will come up against Portugal, Iran and Costa Rica.
The opening match for Zambia is on May 21 at the Jeju World Cup Stadium against Portugal.
