Zambia can qualify to Russia – Fathy

Lusaka Dynamos Technical Director Muhammad Fathy believes Chipolopolo has a chance of making it to Russia 2018 but only if they beat Nigeria. Fathy was speaking on Diamond TV’s Sports Banthu programme.

” Yes Zambia can qualify if they beat Nigeria . Zambia moved a step closer in bringing back hope after beating Algeria at Heroes Stadium. Zambia is facing a disorganised Cameroon in the last game while Algeria might re-organise before their last game,” he said

The former Kabwe Warriors tactician has also backed Coach Wedson Nyirenda’s decision to use Kennedy Mweene and name him captain of the squad in the absence of Rainford Kalaba.

” The two games have brought back the Mweene of 2012. A goalkeeper does not do alot of running and needs decision making skills and Experience to thrive both of which Mweene has,” Fathy Said

Fathy believes Lusaka Dynamos still has a chance of winning the league. These Egyptian born tactician said the team’s not so impressive performances maybe due to the fact that they have alot of players from different countries who are yet to adapt and learn to co-ordinate properly.

  1. Please what is the mathematical chance of Zambia’s qualifications? All I see is. a draw for Nigeria against Zambia and Zambia failing to beat Cameroon 5-6nil may hand the worldcup ticket to Nigeria due to Zambia’s lesser goal aggregate.Do you see Nigeria not picking at least a point in her remaining 2 games?

    • Zambia needs to beat Nigeria in Uyo, on 7 October, 2017, and beat Cameroon in Zambia on 6 November, 2017. When this happens and Nigeria beats Algeria in Algeria, they will both be at 13 points. It is at this point that the Mathematics of goal difference will kick in. For now, Chipolopolo (Copper Bullets) need to focus on gunning down the Super Eagles in their own back yard before aiming at shooting the Indomitable Lions of Yaonde. Their work is cut out and planning begins now.

      • I wish it was that easy , reminds me of a drunk Coach who never looks at his opposition! You should open your eyes and look further, there is no miracle to help them. Zambia is in for trouble!, if they survive the first 20 mins , then they are lucky. the same way Nigeria came out to Cameroon with their boastfulness, it will be much more against Zambia. Nigeria did not get to the top of the table by Error , statically they have shown 90% positive record with their qualification. win 3, tie 1 as supposed to Zambia win 2,tie 1 and lost 1. You do the Math.

  2. No chance sorry. Nigeria is in there best form they have been in for years.Zambia can’t beat nigeria in thier own backyard. Best chance is a draw

  3. This is a dreamer indeed. It is not too early to predict, is it? Nigeria 4-0 Zambia; Zambia 0-2 Nigeria. Ezenwa/Enyeama, Leon Balogun, Ekong, Shehu, Elderson Echiejile/Aina Ola, Mikel(captain), Ndidi, Onazi, Idion Ighalo/Alex Iwobi, Victor Moses, Simon Moses/Ahmed Musa. Subs- Agu, Agu, Iheanacho, Alamkpesi. How can this immature under-23 converted to senior team of Zambia withstand the firepower of the team listed above. Of course injury can come to both teams. When 7th October comes, we will see.

    • HUMMM!! DONT R2D2 THINKS NIGERIA IS A WEST AFRICAN
COUNTRY ? I BELIEVE IN AFRICA,, WEST AFRICANS ARE
HARD NUTS TO CRACK IN FOOTBALL..ANYWAY I ALWAYS KEEP SAYING
      GOODK LUCK TO THE CHIPOS..

      • Lol. The sleeping giant of African football is Central Africa, Congo DRC,Congo Brazzaville,Cameroon. Cheers, good luck to the Black Stars & Cranes.

        • In 2012, Zambia muscled their matches via penalties and not clear victories. Good teams don’t rely on penalties. Nigeria won 2013 AFCOn against a strong Ivorean team but didn’t need the luxury of a shootout, did they? If you are waiting on penalties to qualify for the world cup then it explains why Zambia has never played at the world cup. In all honesty, its a hard one for Zambia and they will need to be on top of their game and the Nigerians will need to play very badly. The eagles are a very slippery customers at home and the Chipolopolo will need something very extra to grind even a draw.

  4. have Zambia ever won a match in west Africa? I can recall you people loosing to Nigeria and Ghana whenever you play on their soil, so judging by your track record what makes you think this time will be any different? especial when its crucial match such as world cup qualifiers?

  5. @djeniko you have only listed names of human beings. Names dont play football. Dont be too confident, rather humble yourself and hope we do well against Zambia. Fact is that Zambia are no pushovers in football. Success is all about hardwork and determination to succeed. I hope Nigeria will have that on Oct 7. But as for boasting, I will rather not boast because I know these Zambians are capable of shocking us lol.

  6. Chipolopolo can grind a result with a bit of luck. They are a very good side, no doubt. Its easy for non footballers to argue blindly when beclouded by sentiments. Those footballers will not be looking forward to the classic encounter.

Sometimes, I wonder if its not the same Copper Bullet that lost to a very weak Eagles in their back yard. This time, they should expect an inform Moses and Ndidi to contend with and a good defensive stalwart in the name of Balogun. It will be a grinding encounter with the winner likely picking the ticket. Sadly, the odds are starkly against the Zambians. Trust me, its not a good thing being an underdog and needing victory. Good luck to the winner

  7. Zambia’s best players in Europe plays for one unknown club in Austria called Lieferin FC while Nigeria players plays for the best clubs in main stream Europe. Victor moses, Moses simon , Odion ighalo are unstoppable. Ask Cameroon, they could not score a single goal over the 2 legs, only a diving gave them a goal/penalty. Little little children who played kids competition (u20 world cup) can measure up against a mighty super eagles team. World cup is bigger than zambia , stop day dreaming. Everything is in favour of Nigeria, goal difference and all of that

  8. Children of west Africa are ridding on past Glory the result is always new stop dreaming Moses and so called Ndidi are useless when they face tougher guys in football the problem was that they were given too much space when they played Algeria and Cameron

  9. Benny , C’mon you should not be insulting good players. I can tell you have never played . the fact is that any of the Moses will terrorize Zambians, Ndidi has won his place in the Nigeria team and there are many others that you probably don’t know , I understand how great it will be for Zambians to get to the Mundial , unfortunately football is 11 man aside and it looks like Nigeria have the upper hand.
