Zambia 2 – 1 Guinea Bissau (Player Ratings)
The Zambia national soccer team got their Africa Cup of Nations qualifications aspirations back on track when they beat erstwhile group K leaders Guinea Bissau 2 -1. The ZamFoot Crew looks at how the Chipolopolo boys faired.
Kennedy Mwene 5.5 / 10 – Made brilliant ball distributions and excellently commanded his back line. Enjoyed a cool game till the 80th minute when he gave away an easy goal that resulted in the visitors goal of the day.
Lawrence Chungu 7/10 – What a Stella perfomance from the Biuldcon left back. Started ahead of the more decorated Fackson Kapumbu but his confidence and well timed runs proved why Coach Sven preferred to start with him. He was up against a tricky fast paced winger and the visitors were trying to exploit his side but he was up to the task.
Kabaso Chongo 7.5/10 – The TP Mazembe centre back has continued to impress with his new found position. Perfectly Partnered with Stopilla Sunzu and made timely interceptions penetrated the midfield with a few runs and always seemed deadly going forward.
Solomon Sakala 6.5/10 – Was tipped to start and delivered as expected. He was carefully monitored by Stopilla Sunzu and defended most of the times and made necessary passes building up from the wing.
Stopila Sunzu 7.0
Scorer of the first goal. Proved that somethings definitely get better with age. Displayed great leadership at the back. His experience had him play a wider position than the usual centre back but it was that partnership with Kabaso that proved to be indestructible .
Enock Mwepu 6.5/10 – Arguably the fans favourite. He was heavily involved in the first half build ups and made brilliant passes. Tactically was expected to ignite play in the middle of the pack and did just that. He lost a few balls and seemed to be slower than his usual self.
Cletus Chama Chota 8.5/10 – The writers man of the match. Made it in the starting eleven and was involved in most build ups. Made his intentions know as early as the 10th minute but it was his clinical runs and passes that led to the second goal. His partnership with Mwepu is definitely one to look out for.
Nathan Sinkala 7.5/10 – The TP Mazembe anchor man put up a world class perfomace. His presence in the game brought in a different dimension and always seemed to have great options with when and where to pass the ball.
Augustine Mulenga 6.5/10 – Has seen better days. Always seemed to be getting into the game but the speedy winger just didn’t seem to be getting his running shoes heating up. He made only a few of his trademark runs but one wonders if it was as per instruction from the technical bench.
Lubambo Musonda 6.0/10 – Started ahead of Fashion Sakala as anticipated but had a tough time against the formidable Guinea Bissau right full back. He made brilliant ball controls and timely released the balls. Was unfortunate to have failed to score an easy ball but his long shot certainty didn’t go passed NASA space stations.
Justin Shonga 8/10 – Was preferred ahead of Patson Daka and he made it three goals in three games for Sven. The defense was failing to cope with his pace and movement and he clinically dribbled past the goal keeper to give Zambia’s second and final score.
Patson Daka 5.0/10 – Always hungry to play and win. Seemed dangerous on the ball and was slowly becoming a thorn in the Guinea defence.
Salulani Phiri 4.5/10 – Came in to stabilise the midfield and reinforce the defence that seemed like blowing the narrow lead .
Isaac Shamujopa – Came in late in the game as a tactical change and didn’t even have a feel of the ball.
Coach Sven Vandenbroeck 7.0/10
Made an offensive starting eleven and made known who the boss is by benching the players many would have loved to start but today’s results have vindicated his tactics. His replacement for Mwepu was made a bit late as the Computer showed lapses toward the end of the first half. The bringing on of Salulani should have changed the dynamics of his tactics allowing Cletus to play more offensive than wider.
Unlike what many thought as an experimental starting eleven for a crucial game ,the Belgium born proved just how relevant every piece is in his bag of tricks.Kudos!!!
